Week 5

OFFENSIVE GAME PLAN

The biggest defensive weakness of Flint is that their LB’s are run stoppers and pretty bad in coverage. So staring 2 TE’s as well as pass catching RB McCaffrey, I want to attack the middle and stretch those LB’s. Work off the read option and RPO’s make them run. Screens, swings shallow crosses with deep routes for the WRs. Make the safeties come down to support the short game then hit them over the top. Outside run game with Caff and Murray to make those LB’s move laterally

DEFENSIVE GAME PLAN

Scheme hybrid 4-3

OFFENSE

At first we will come into the game with the same formation as last game. We'll line up in 12 personnel with Kittle sometimes moving to WR for 3-WR 11 personnel sets. Kamara and Conner will be running it between the tackles/tight ends. Conner will mostly be on for 3rd down. Kittle will always see the field while Hurst will get on about twice as much as Hooper. We feel we can expose their weak defensive line and be able to break through often, especially if they use a 3-man front, or even a 5-man front with little help from the second level. We want the first quarter or so to be all about the run game. We want a 70-30 split of run to pass until about halfway through the 2nd quarter and most of the runs will be man blocking. Deebo will get a couple reverses and motion to keep the outside rushers from cheating and Josh Allen will run the RPO with Kamara or Deebo coming around as the initial run option with the TE away from the run direction breaking off or the slot receiver to be the primary look for the pass, with Allen having the option to keep it and run.

Once we get about 20 minutes into the game we will switch to 21 and 22 personnel and will not focus on any particular type of run (outside vs inside) nor lane and thus we will switch to primarily zone blocking. The running backs will be more involved in the receiving game now with screen plays, tosses to the flat and curl routes. Kamara will still be out there most plays but we want to use our deep stable of backs so Devin Singletary, with his familiarity with Josh Allen, will be used more often at this point as the 2nd RB. James Conner would still come one as one of the backs for most 3rd and short plays. Play action will be more heavily involved as well now that the run is firmly established. Deebo, Moore, Lazard and the tight ends should have more space to get open and find the holes in the defense for some big gains.

Once we get into in the 3rd quarter we want to unleash the beast. We'll swap between 1 and 2 RB looks with a fresh Rashaad Penny getting some work on 2-RB sets, but we will start bringing in the big guns on more plays. We want Deebo, Moore and Lazard all on the field at the same time and we will come in with 4 and even 5 WR looks where Kittle lines up as a WR and Kamara motions into the slot where he has been very effective. If Gage is active he would see some play in these formations as well. Raleigh's corners are great but we feel we can still get a few big plays by them and we especially want to attack those deep safeties who are looking vulnerable and make the linebackers work in coverage with Leonard missing. At this point in the game we are expected to switch more to a 65-35 pass-run split unless the defense just can't stop the run at all. We feel we can exploit the back and middle of the field and the rest of the game was to soften them up even more just for this moment.

DEFENSE

We're changing it up on defense this week. We feel we have a strength in our defensive line but we don't want to do any 5-man front foolishness, at least not at base. We are showing up in a 3-4 with Simmons at DT, Jarrett at nose and Wise at DE. All three have shown the ability to stop the run and pass rush at a high level. Wilkins, like Jarrett, has the versatility to move in to any of these positions and will come in the rotation often to give the others a rest. Bosa and Clowney will be on the outside, with neither particularly being forced to the strong or week side. Jerry Hughes will be the primary man rotating in to give any of them a rest. Kirksey will come in for Jewell and Edwards when they need a rest. Their main job is to be the 2nd level of the run D and to keep an eye on Mark Andrews, and any funny business from the running backs trying to be receivers. Also the slot if they aren't in a 21 or 22 set.

This front seven, in this formation, we feel will be able to stop the run inside and out while also getting maximum pressure from the front  to Kyler Murray. The pressure will be coming with our edge rushers often and they will also try to keep him from moving outside of the pocket. With Jordan Mailata ot it should be much tougher on him as well. It'll be a war zone but unlike Call of Duty he won't be able to put his skills to use. He'll be shell shocked and will feel like he has less time in the pocket than he may actually have as the game progresses. JC Jackson should be healthy now so we expect him and Tyrann Mathieu to be seeing the field the entire game. We want James Bradberry to get physical with his WRs and Adoree' Jackson will be coming in to him a breather. Mike Hilton will be the primary nickel corner while Nick Scott will come in at the dime and 3 safety looks and occasionally as the strongside LB to make what looks like the 3-3-5 a disguised 3-4. Jayron Kearse will be come in for Amos if he's in need of a rest.

We don't feel that any of our DBs are outmatched on a one on one but on most plays when they do not bring more than 3 WRs (including Andrews) we are going to be playing a hybrid man-zone so that should help as well. We will have a man on Davante Adams at all times. It will by default be one of the outside corners unless he is lined up inside and Mike Hilton or a 3rd safety is on the field; in that case, they will get his number.
