Camden

Offense

This week we go up against our old friends in Cuba. We’re both coming off losses and are looking to bounce back against one another. They’ve got a very balanced defense so we’ll have to be varied today. Here are some things we want to key on.

Keep Ekeler involved- Coming into today, Ekeler is 3rd in the entire NFL in receptions and has 22 the past two weeks so we want to keep that momentum going. I expect a lot of attention to be paid to the WR’s from Cuba today, rightfully so, but aside from his role carrying the ball we’re gonna give him 10-12 targets today. Between screens, and swing passes, we’ll even bring Damien Harris into the game and split Ekeler out from time to time to create mismatches. If Cuba doesn’t commit a safety to Ekeler through the air today, he’s going to feast. If they do commit a safety, this should open things up down the field for our WR’s. Either way, Ekeler is going to be heavily involved.

Test those CB’s- Cuba has some long limbed CB’s on the roster and we want to see how well these guys do running laterally and in short areas. We know Rasul Douglas is a better zone guy so if they man up we want to run a decent amount of bunch sets and get the defenders in conflict with each other. If they go heavy zone that’s where we think Cooper Kupp can have a big day with option routes and just picking that defense apart.

Take some deep shots- With Evans and Brown today we want lots of slants and crossing routes to get them the ball quickly as we usually do, but they’re both very good at getting down the field and making plays. So after an accumulation of passes to Ekeler getting  defenders to cheat down low, and the trio of Kupp/Evans/Brown working the intermediate part of the field we want to mix in some deep shots against this defense. We’ll work Hamler in at times today too for some deep shots with our trio working underneath. We think we can break a couple plays this way today.

Fields/Inside the 5- We’ll run some of the same Fields packages that we did last week that literally only one person seemed to notice or mention and this week we’ll do something similar. We’ll give him 8-10 attempts at this and we’ll even run it inside the 5 a few times. We’ll bring in an extra lineman in favor of the TE and run a Taysom Hill-esque set of plays where Fields can read the line and decide to hit a crease or he can sling it to one of the big bodies on the outside. I’ll even throw a pass to Zach Tom when he subs in the redzone as an eligible receiver because that kid can do everything.

Defense(4-3 cover 2 man base)

Cuba’s best shot at winning, whether he acknowledges it or not is going to be utilizing his RB’s as much as possible to take the burden off of Brady, who looks like he may have finally started his decline.  Here are some things we want to focus on.

Force Cuba to be 1 dimensional- Our base defense this week will be a traditional heavy 4-3 because if Cuba was smart they’d set up to be run heavy today. Last week, most of the in depth analysis I got on why I lost was “uhhhh DV run game” against a duo of runners so I want to be prepared to not lose in the same fashion. If Cuba has both RB’s in the game and splits Etienne out a bunch, we’ll replace a LB (Jones) with Amani Hooker and Hooker gets that responsibility of following Etienne. Our line will be aware of counters and such by staying disciplined and maintaining their responsibilities. If Cuba wants to spread the ball out and throw it all day long, we welcome that because Brady isn't built for that anymore.

Get pressure up the gut- If we can stop the run and force Brady into lots of 3rd and long situations we’ll pull our base DT’s and have 4 pass rushers on the line. This gives us the ability to run stunts and twists to try to get defenders attacking Brady right up the middle. We’ll also run some LB blitzes up the gut as well, and when we switch shells to a cover 1 that extra defender can run gut blitzes from time to time as well.

Cover 2 man- Our base shell will be cover 2 today because Cuba has some strong receiving weapons and a couple of them can get behind a defense and do damage. The two deep shell should help limit that. Our guys will play sides and if Cuba spends a lot of the game in a standard 3 wide alignment, we replace a LB with CGJ as our nickel so we aren’t getting caught in odd matchups against receivers. Keenan Allen came back last week but wasn’t effective and only played limited snaps, but we’ll still respect him if they bring him in for 3 WR sets. We’ll switch up the cover 2 to a cover 1 from time to time and bring that extra defender down to attack the box.

Cuba

Offense

Run the ball with Dalvin cook and Travis Etienne. Get an even balance between both runners. Establish play action to Justin Jefferson. Heavily target Jefferson.

Defense

Man coverage across the board. Use some 3 man DL and keep as much attention to back end as possible.
