Sugashane's Thicker Than a Snickers Mock

So my bro played a draft game with me, he went down a list and I picked for the Bears and he did the rest. I was able to make one FA signing of my choice and then he sent me the picks up until the Bears. He used a consensus mock board, but not being able to see ahead was actually pretty cool. SO I put it all together for this mock. While not entirely intentional the title makes sense when you see the rest.

Free Agent Signing

EDGE Yannick Ngakoue – 3 years, $36 mil ($18 mil guaranteed)

Ngakoue is piss poor vs the run but he is absolutely one of the better and most consistent passrushers in the league. While he isn’t young enough to be a real fixture for the defense for years I say to use him as a passrush specialist like how SF used Aldon Smith.

Mock draft

*** Bears traded 1.9 to PIT for 1.17 and 2.32

1.1   CAR – QB CJ Stroud

1.2   HOU – QB Bryce Young

1.3   AZ – EDGE Will Anderson

1.4   IND – QB Anthiny Richardson

1.5   SEA – DT Jalen Carter

1.6   DET – EDGE Tyree Wilson

1.7   LV – CB Christian Gonzales

1.8   ATL – EDGE Myles Murphy

1.9   PIT*** - OT Paris Johnson Jr

1.10         PHI – EDGE Lukas Van Ness

1.11         TEN – QB Will Levis

1.12         HOU – WR Jaxon Smitn-Njigba

1.13         NYJ – OT Broderick Jones

1.14         NE – CB Joey Porter Jr

1.15         GB – TE Michael Mayer

1.16         WAS – CB Devon Witherspoon

1.17         CHI*** - OT Darnell Wright

Wright is a mammoth at RT and fits into the role from day one. I have him graded with Johnson and Jones but actually favor Wright. He steps in to be the bookend that the Bears need opposite of Jones. He and Jenkins make for a hell of a duo to run off of too.

2.32 – CHI*** - DT Mazi Smith

I know the Bears signed Billings but I think Smith could make for a damn good 3T as well. Personally I think he gets to start at 3T and then when a passing down comes up Billings pops out, he jumps to NT, and Ngakoue comes in. Someone like Green kicks to 3T and you have a solid NASCAR package starting up.

2.53 CHI – DL Gervon Dexter

Dexter at 53 is a damn steal. He isn’t as athletic as you would want the DE to be but he is for a DT. At 310lbs and has a lot of athletic gifts to love. I put him as a DE initially and he jumps into the Izzy role. Is it conventional? No, but Flus put Denico Autry at DE when he was an oversized 3T essentially. The Bears invested heavily in the LB corps and now it is time to let them stay clean and make plays. A starting DL of Dexter, Mazi, Billings, and Green is going to shut down lanes and keep Edmunds and Edwards clean. I could see Mazi as the NT and Dexter as the 3T for the next 10 years.

3.61 CHI – IOL Joe Tippman

So I have been saying repeatedly that I want OTs across the board, or at least guys who can be physically dominant at the POA on the inside. TIppmann is a freakish athlete for an IOL and has OT size. I like my OTs to both be LT athletes in space, OGs to be the RTs, and the C can be a RT or more traditional phone booth bulldozer (since they are often tasked with anchoring vs big 1-techs I prioritize that over their athleticism). Joe could start anywhere in the IOL but I LOVE the idea of having him flanked by Davis and Jenkins. He’s a massive mauler who will fit right in.

3.64 CHI - EDGE Zach Harrison

Harrison has underwhelmed but he has so much to like physically.  He has ridiculous arm length, is strong and pretty good with his first step, but not the most fleet of foot. Does he add 10lbs and make himself another huge base end? Flus likes big DEs with length and Harrison fits in spades. With some work he could be a hellish rusher.

4.103 CHI – CB Riley Moss

I have liked him since I started watching Iowa early in the year. Kid is a baller. Tough, makes plays, and proved he has underrated athleticism through the season and the Combine. I would have zero issues putting him as a boundary CB, or if the Bears move on from EJax in 2024 then letting him move to FS if that allowed for the best DB group to be fielded. I think he is a legitimate CB though.

4.133 CB Jakorian Bennett

Guy is athletic as hell, willing to stick his nose into a mess, and has ok size. Just as how I said I would be fine with Moss moving to FS in 2024 if that allowed for the best group to be fielded, same goes for Bennett. He doesn’t force turnovers like you want but has dropped a number, so he is there at least. Hopefully with some work he can secure them.

5.136 IOL Andrew Vorhees

With Jenkins injury concerns, Whitehair and Patrick likely being gone in 2024, and not having any real proof that Carter or Kramer are even quality depth yet, so I want to draft someone I rated in the late 2nd/early3rd and let him heal this year. If he lacks the mobility that I want at OG then I put him as the C if Jenkins is moved. Otherwise he is at least going to be a damn good IOL and should be able to back up all 3 positions.

5.148 DL Yaya Diaby

I have already loaded up with the DL so far, getting a passrusher and two DTs (one who plays DE in base ATM) and now taking a flier on another. Poles likes his RAS and Diaby did as well. Hopefully he develops but if not he at least pushed Gipson and Robinson.

7.218 WR Matt Landers

Same as with Diaby, Landers just fits the RAS prerequisite and has the size/speed combination to hopefully become a solid X or big slot receiver for the Bears.

7.258 P Michael Turk

So… I only know of 3 kickers and all were gone in the 7th. I was going to pick a K to challenge and replace Santos, then thought about drafting Malik Cunningham and he was drafted too. Even Bobo was taken! But I wanted to try to find somewhere to upgrade and believe I did. Gill wasn’t bad last year but was nowhere near good either. Turk has a booming leg and will help in flipping the field when a driove stalls early.

Depth Chart

QB – Fields, Walker, UDFA that beats out Peterman.

HB – Herbert, Foreman, Homer, Evans

FB – Blasingame (Diaby or Leatherwood for big FBs would be cool)

WR – Moore, Mooney, Claypool, V. Jones, St. Brown, Landers

TE – Kmet, Tonyan, Tonges

LT – B. Jones, Leatherwood

LG – Davis, (Tippmann or Whitehair, then Leatherwood or Borom), Carter

C – Whitehair/Tippmann Patrick, Kramer

RG – Jenkins

RT – Wright, Borom

LE – Dexter, Harrison, Gipson/Robinson

NT – Billings, (Smith)

3T – Smith, Jones

RE – Green, (Harrison), Diaby

Passrush Specialist - Ngakoue

WILL – Edwards, Cole

MIKE – Edmunds, (Cole), Weatherford

SAM – Sanborn, (Robinson)

CB – Johnson, Moss, Bennett/Jones

NB – Gordon, Vildor

FS – Jackson, (Bennett), Hicks

SS – Brisker, Thomas

K – Santos/UDFA

P – Turk/Gill

LS – Scales

IR – IOL Vorhees

I'd be pretty thrilled overall with that draft haul.

I'd be a touch skeptical that Mazi can play 3t though... I mean he has the gifts athletically to be dominant there, but I don't see it on tape. Pairing him with Dexter though I think alleviates that concern a bit, and being able to move any of them around with Billings at NT (or use all 3 in a jumbo package) is enticing, and certainly makes other teams think twice about trying to run on the interior against us.

Wright and Tippman would be amazing for settling the OL, and I personally really like taking Vorhees later and redshirting him

Also love the upside shot on Matt Landers and Riley Moss is a strangely underrated Corner this year, and I'm not really sure why.

The one nitpick I'd have is your late 4th and late 5th round picks. I'd like to look into TE depth or RB depth in those spots. Keaton Mitchell-RB is a guy I'm high on for our scheme that I think could even make a case for playing time immediately as a scat back/KR/wr option... and there's a chance a more traditional "feature" back type makes it to that range, like Roschon Johnson, Kendre Miller, or Chase Brown that could be in play as well. TE wise, this draft is pretty loaded as well, and since they generally take a bit of time to develop, I'd see if we can't get one going on that process. Schoonmaker is probably my favorite predicted in that range, but there's a few others. Kuntz I'd at least consider because of his absurdly freakish athleticism as well.... and the Cinci TE as well could be an option.

But yeah, overall I'd be very thrilled with the draft.

I would like to see Bears draft Tippman at some point in draft.

A trade down for Wright is an ideal scenario to me.  I guess we will see if we have any partners.

But, a lot of people are speculating that Poles won’t go for an oversized OL.  They think he wants lighter guys.

They might be right.  We will see.

I think this would be really good for us but I am not sure how many of the later guys get there...Wright at #17 would be high no doubt but if he locks down RT for 10+ years would anyone care? IMO no which makes him a quality pick there...Mazi isn't one of my favorite guys in the draft but he fits what we will be looking to do inside...Dexter frustrates the life out of me...he is so boom or bust...if he can learn how to get off the snap quicker then he could be a real threat inside...huge fan of Tippmann but I am not sure I see any way he makes it all the way to the end of the 2nd...I think he has a chance to go top 40...Harrison is an ideal fit for the edge that I really like...Moss is a guy I like given how he has played in a very similar scheme...Bennett is another guy I think goes higher than this due to his athletic traits...Diaby is another guy who I think goes much higher given his traits and just how productive he was last off season...Landers makes a lot of sense with that RAS...Tuck I wouldn't take just since I think Gill did well...

Overall this would be really good for us if it happened.

Yeah, the 3T spot is a bit of a mismatch but I think he and Dexter make for a hell of a duo for the next 6-10 years. Thr jumbo package sounds great too.

I was pretty pumped too. A combination if those three mixed with Davis, Jenkins, and Jones puts a team in a amn good spot for growth. Hopefully Leatherwood or Borom prove to be capable swing tackles.

Moss is underrated because everyone still thinks he is a slot WR. Lol

I'm honestly not sure on a lot of TE and HB prospects late. I was a terrible football fan this year (last year too lol). So my names started getting really limited later. I feel like I have 75 guys I rotate around.

Kuntz was gone in the 3rd. I do remember being annoyed about that. Even Bobo was taken before my last pick.

I honestly wouldn't even hate him being picked at 9. I've been high on him and anyone who can lock down a OT spot for 10 years is top 10 worthy to me. Of course we all want Lane Johnson or Trent Williams but realistically we've barely kept a first rounder on this team for a 2nd contract. Lol

I don't think he ever becomes as dominant as Hicks but I can definitely see some parallels between their games. Both make a ton of pressure from power and can dominate the LOS. I think he ends up being a player that can be at somewhere between Goldman and Hicks level.

I see see some Justin Smith to his game, that's what he pops to me as.

Dexter frustrates the life out of me...he is so boom or bust...if he can learn how to get off the snap quicker then he could be a real threat inside...

Agreed. His time at FLA was frustrating me at times since he could be so dominant and then take himself out of a play in the same damn drive.

I never try to predict the GMs moves but I did go by some of the apparent parameters he uses. I prefer much the same though so it's easier too. Lol

I was running out of names and definitely wouldn't mind drafting someone else. I DO want them to bring competition in for him. He was in the 25-30 range on most metrics I believe. With another year of coaching I could definitely see him taking a step forward though.

Moving  back to #17 and getting Darnell Wright is my dream scenario  ....unless Jalen Carter is there at #9 and we believe in him after his visits to HH. Trading back for either #17 + #32 or something like #17 + #80 + '24 FRP is no-brainer

However, in your scenario I would take JMS I would even move up to like 25 if necessary for him ....Fix the OLine now, get it RIGHT  and growing  together while we still have vets like patrick and whitehair to make sure rook JMS doesn't get Fields killed ...Wright should be just fine starting as a Rookie !

We need to know if  PIT is moving up to take a CB or a T bc we could conceivably miss out on Wright at  #17 if they take a T

Would love to get Sam LaPorte with one of the next 3 picks or move up for Darnell Washington OR  a deserving underTckle or edge that slides
