2023 Special Teams, will it be a yea or nay year...?

It’s gonna be Joseph, Wright, and DePaola at the specialist spots. Joseph would cost 2m to cut, so I don’t think they’d turn to a rookie. They were also preaching continuity.

I think Metellus, Dye, Pace, Ham, and Ward will be core ST guys.

Overall on the season Podlesny hit 26 field goals and 73 extra points. His 151 points is the highest total of his career, topping last season’s total of 137. He’s went 26-of-31 with a long of 50 yards this year for a career-best season and an overall mark during his time at Georgia of 61-for-74 (82.43 percent). That included a career-long of 53 that won the Bulldogs the 2021 Peach Bowl over Cincinnati. Podlesny never had a kick blocked.

“It is a luxury to have him,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said about Podlesny this season. “He’s been Mr. Consistency since he’s been here, and he’s mentally wired the right way and does a tremendous job for our program.”

Podlesny also handled primary kickoff duties this past season with punter Jake Camarda off to the NFL. Of his 109 attempts, 72 went for touchbacks (66.06%). He averaged 63.9 yards per kickoff.

Kick coverage might need some help.

Hopefully Joejuan Williams replaces Kris Boyd and helps us improve the unit. Our UDFAs will certainly get their shot.

The return groups will be just fine.

I sincerely hope we get more out of Williams than just as a replacement for Boyd...he was originally a 2nd rd pick after all.

I wouldn't expect it. He's been relegated to special teams or injured his entire time with NE. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the team.

I wouldn't necessarily be surprised either, but we should expect more from a guy with his talent and especially his size.  Whether we get it or not, that's a whole different thing.  😉

I hope for more, but I wouldn't expect more. There is very little reason to expect more IMO.

who's going to get chances at being the punt and kick returners?

Punt returner competition is between Brandon Powell and Jalen Reagor likely.  I'm not sure any of the draftees or UDFA have much, if any, experience in it.

The now virtually irrelevant kick returner position is obviously favored to Kene...however, UDFA Malik Knowles could compete for the job.

I think Nwangwu and Reagor probably have those sealed up, although they may want Nailor to push Reagor at PR. He did return some at MSU.

I think Brandon Powell is far and away favored over Reagor for the PR job.

NC State WR Thayer Thomas

Thomas also returned punts throughout his career, even returning one for a touchdown in 2019. Thomas lacks an imposing physical profile, but his special teams’ experience could help him earn a role on the Vikings roster.

Kansas State WR Malik Knowles

Knowles earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors, catching 48 passes for 725 and two touchdowns. He also returned 23 kickoffs for 592 yards.

Thanks...I had gotten the information on Knowles from Dane Brugler's Beast, but he did not have that info on Thayer.  😉
