Would be crazy if the Colts or Texans win the division considering the expectations both teams had.

It's going to be an interesting final stretch. JAX, Indy, Houston all 8-6.

Jags: @ Bucs, vs Panthers, @ Titans
Texans: vs Browns, vs Titans, @ Colts
Colts: @ Falcons, vs Raiders, vs Texans

As a Colts fan I'm hesitant about all those three games. Should beat Atlanta and LV but you never know.

Okay but given that you've lost 3 straight, I don't think it's completely out of the question that either the Texans or Colts win out while the Jags go 2-1 (or worse). I mean I agree it's not super likely but I hardly think the idea is crazy.

How is indy in the south of the arc when it's in  the north of the USA

Probably cuz they aren't east enough for the afc east along with and the NFL wanted to keep historical rivalries intact.

Imagine this for Divisions

I'm trying to get this as close distance wise

Bills Jets Giants New England

Steelers Ravens Redskins Eagles

browns Bengals Colts Lions

jags Bucs Dolphins Falcons

Panthers Titans Saints Texans

bears Packers Vikings Seahawks(no clue cuz so far from everyone)

cowboys chiefs broncos Cardinals

Raiders Chargers rams 49ers

same reason why Dallas is in the NFC East despite being in the west - because the divisions were chosen for matchups, with geography being entirely secondary

in the AFC South's case, it was the new guys (Houston), the old new guys (Jacksonville), the guys who had left Houston (Tennessee) with the latter two coming from the Central. That left the rest of the central to come the AFC North, with basically the decision coming down between the Colts and the Dolphins for the last slot to balance out the East and South. While the Dolphins would have made more sense, the Dolphins' owner wanted to stay in the east, and so the Colts came down into the South.

the Colts were moved out of the AFC East for balance purposes and it was more convenient to add them to the new AFC South than the Miami Dolphins.

How though? Miami is much further away from the rest of the AFC East than it is from the other AFC South cities.

It would make the most sense to have the Colts in the North, the Ravens in the East and the Dolphins in the South

Rivalries. Dolphins/Bills amd Dolphins/Pats were much bigger rivalries in 2002. Plus the Colts moving from Baltimore to Indianapolis didn’t help them.
