HuskieBear
Here is a chart showing the top QBs against Top-25 competition this season. Maybe CW's defense giving up over 34 points/game had something with him going 7-5? dll2000
https://www.bleachernation.com/bears/2024/02/02/caleb-williams-cowherd-2/ “I got a call from the Caleb Williams camp and they went ‘whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa, Colin … we don’t want to be painted as anti-Chicago and we don’t want to be painted as anti-Bear. And they made it clear to me that they said: Listen, we don’t want to go to a city that doesn’t care. Chicago cares. They’re big, loud, they’re passionate. They fire coaches all the time. They care. We don’t want to go to some Sun Belt place where you tarp off the upper deck. And they did say there is a path to succeed in Chicago — it’s called the Houston Texans. Defensive coach. A couple of weapons. Cap space. Good pick. They’ve got a second pick. There’s a bunch of different receivers out there … they can go get another weapon.”

There are probably going to be many times we look back fondly on Justin when Caleb is on instagram demanding the Bears serve better sodas in the stadium, but if he's as good as he could be then we'll get over it. Madmike90
You have to wonder if Poles views Caleb as a Joe Burrows type...Miami offered 3x 1st round picks+ to the Bengals to move from #5 to #1 and the Bengals flat out said no and that nothing would move them out the spot...this could be shaping up the same way... AZBearsFan
We have to at least discuss this, right? What if Poles is set to move on from Fields, but likes Maye more than Williams? Everyone seems to agree that Williams can play, but if he wasn’t in this draft we’d all be fawning over Maye just as much. He’s a truly elite QB prospect too. AZBearsFan
Maye to me reminds me a ton of Jay Cutler, but if Cutler loved football the way Fields loves football. I see that as a really good thing. Edited February 4 by AZBearsFan

Agree that this is at least possible, and have been wondering about it since I started lookign at the QB options. If you think the character profile the Bears have gone after in coaches and players they don't tend to acquire or keep headaches or loud personalities. Williams is probably the latter and possible the former. Would be super Bearsy to dodge out of the way of a possible top talent, but they might think Maye is just as good. Honestly if that's the way their evaluation shakes out I'd be fine with that especially if they could go 1->2 and rob the Commies a bit.
