In real time, with who was available, I think 99% of us would have selected Christian Darrisaw if we were going to go OT. Imagine having that draft. Grudock 1st rounders were abysmal picks for the most part, and I don't think Mayock could effectively run a team as a GM and all it entails, but he certainly had a knack for scouting talent. 2019, we got a ton of tread for 4th and 5th rounders, all told. 2020, was atrocious though. 2021 was very good and could've been a once-a-decade or more sort of draft. All in all, not terrible run with them. The 1st round whiffs and the locker room dysfunction will be what's remembered, but there were definitely a lot of positives. Enough positives, dare I say, to wish the regime was kept intact? Gruden was gone, but I'd gladly have kept the administration and assistants, especially considering what we wound up with. It’s a strange quirk but honestly, with a few little changes such as Darrisaw instead of Leatherwood and Lamb and Johnson instead or Ruggs and Arnette we could have had some team. The travesty is that that’s pretty much what the forum consensus was. If we had Lamb aswell then we probably don’t trade for Adams and have an extra 1st and 2nd that could have been starters or used in trading up for a QB maybe? A few small changes here and there and we’d be Super Bowl contenders. So many missed opportunities, It’s crazy to think about 🙂

Time will tell of course, but on paper it looks a decent start. Bowers and JPJ will make or break it though.

Bowers will be a franchise cornerstone, jpj will revamp the IOL, glaze will man the RT
raidr4life
10 hours ago, NYRaider said: He was projected as the DE4 coming into last season behind two of the highest paid edge players in the league (Crosby / Jones) and a guy that we had just drafted #7 overall. Koonce had played less than 10% of our defensive snaps during his first two seasons with basically zero production. He wasn't even starting in preseason last year without Wilson / Jones playing, Jordan Willis was getting snaps over him. People were pounding the table for him? lmfao dude averaged 5 snaps per game his first two years. You can throw out meaningless averages all you want, people have been saying Koonce needs to get his chance for years. Pierce finally gave it to him, and he answered with 8 sacks and 3 forced fumbles in 11 starts.

No one on here was hyping up Koonce before last season and be real with yourself, he got a chance because of Tyree being hurt and Chandler going off the rails. He has always had obvious juice off the edge, i thought he had potential to be a pass rush specialist, but he also played the run well last year. Some time guys take time to develop.

Based on the 5 snaps per game he played he deserved reps over two of the highest paid DE in the league and a top 10 pick, gotcha.

I beg to differ. Myself and at least one other poster I remember were high on him and wanted him to get many more snaps as he’d shown lots of potential and we felt like he needed more reps from his second year on to flourish. Very early last season it was an ongoing thing that many posters wanted Koonce to get more chance as he’d flashed talent.

How many times has money or draft stock gotten in the way of playing the better players? happens all the time.

On 11/23/2022 at 8:00 AM, NYRaider said: Our non-existent interior pass rush has also amplified everything for him as well. I'd bet that he would've gotten home a few times this year if we had a disruptive DT pushing the pocket. Why doesn't Koonce ever get a chance to play? Trust the coaches to develop our talent. On 1/5/2024 at 12:43 AM, NYRaider said: Malcolm Koonce has been on a tear down the stretch this season and Wilson has shown signs of improvement. QB is a glaring need and by far the biggest need we have heading into the offseason. He definitely has some juice as a pass rusher, he just literally never gets an opportunity to play.
