Week 3 Power Rankings:

1. Hamilton Hornets (2-0, LW:1) - Hamilton comes out on top in a battle of top 3 teams and sweet yellow, orange & black endzones. It was tight for 3 quarters until the Hornets put the Ducks away with a pair of 4th quarter TDs, extending to a 24-point unanswered scoring streak before allowing a garbage time TD that kept it within single digits.
2. Rio de Janeiro Pirates (2-0, LW:2) - Another game that was close through 3 quarters until the Pirates got a couple TDs to go up 14. They allowed a late TD and had to sustain a drive to avoid OT and made the ballsy decision to kick a long FG instead of punting it to seal the game. The gamble worked out and they won by 10.
3. Reykjavik Direwolves (2-0, LW:4) - The Wolves may be lucky not to have taken the giant upset loss this week thanks to a missed Sock Puppet PAT that would have tied the game. Yes, they took a knee in FG position, but maybe Burlington plays more conservative had the game been tied in their own end. It felt much like Greenland's game last week. This week they head to Rio for a top 3 matchup and they'll need to bring their A game.
4. Greenland Polar Bears (2-0, LW:7) - They avoided the upset with a TD with 5 seconds remaining in the game. A great defensive performance and if it wasn't so close I might have bumped them ahead of the Direwolves, who jumped the Polar Bears last week after they themselves survived on a similar scenario as Greenland did last week.
5. Anchorage Amphibians (1-1, LW:9) - A great victory over a solid Little Rock team that made the score seem closer than it was on a garbage time TD. The Amphibians take the #5 slot because they are coming off a win unlike the next two teams who also lost to a top 2 team.
6. Indianapolis Predators (1-1, LW:5) - The Predators let it slip vs Rio in the 4th quarter and they couldn't get the defensive stop to get one more chance to force OT. They are ahead of the Ducks because their game was still on the line until the final drive vs a similar opponent and they had a much more impressive win in week 1.
7. Phoenix Rubber Ducks (1-1, LW:3) - The stats indicate that the game was much closer than the end of the game shows. The Ducks had high averages when they ran the ball and made completions but they just couldn't convert well on 3rd down and allowed a defensive TD while hardly having possession. They get Anchorage next week where both teams look to show that they are still among the elite.
8. Egypt Starfalls (2-0, LW:11) - A strong defensive performance followed by a strong offensive performance. The Starfalls are looking like they could be a real threat. Could they get to 6 wins by the halfway point of the season?
9. Butte Bots (1-1, LW:12) - An onside kick miracle gets them over Hanoi. Is #9 too high? Well we'll see this week when they play the team that probably thinks they deserve their spot, Little Rock.
10. Little Rock Uni Royals (1-1, LW:6) - Honestly, the only reason Little Rock is below Butte is because they are coming off a loss. They certainly think they are the much better team and they won't have to wait long to prove it as they get the early spotlight vs the Bots on TNF.
11. Freiburg Venom (1-1, LW:8) - We'll see soon enough if their win vs Hanoi is as impressive as it first seemed but they missed their chance to quiet the doubters with a loss to an Egypt team that was dealing with a similar situation.
12. New Zealand Blobfish (1-1, LW:14) - In what seems to by a theme this week, the Blobfish played a tight game and pulled away in the 4th. It probably would have been easy had they converted a few more 3rd downs.
13. Scranton Papermakers (1-1, LW:16) - Yup, it's definitely the theme this week. Scranton impressively pulled away in the 4th when it was tied at 17. Not a bad start to the season. Lots of promise.
14. Hanoi Viet Kongs (0-2, LW:10) - The Kongs seem too talented to be winless but yet they are. There is no way they can be higher than this right now but if there was ever a win that would prove they are still among the elite, it would be one vs Hamilton on the road this week.
15. Lancaster Fighting Amish (1-1, LW:15) - They tried to win another game with bend but don't break football but the defense collapsed in the 4th quarter and they just couldn't answer.
16. Cincinnati Buffleheads (1-1, LW:17) - The Buffleheads broke the pattern and actually pulled ahead in the 3rd quarter before having to play tight defense in the 4th quarter. A great defensive effort but they'll have to prove it vs a team with a pulse if they want to rise further.
17. Tokyo Samurai (0-2, LW:18) - On 4th and 2 with less than 2 minutes to play they could have sealed the game with a short first down but instead they kicked a 55-yard FG to go up 4. Their defense then just couldn't slow down the Polar Bears who scored with what could have been their last play. A much improved defensive performance which would have been impressive if not for that last drive. Their offense is still a massive issue though.
18. Burlington Sock Puppets (0-2, LW:20) - Dustin Hopkins is not a fan favourite after a missed FG and PAT that cost them the win vs a solid team. The run D was legendary and for that and giving some benefit of the doubt to the kicker, I need to give the Sock Puppets a boost.
19. Wattsville Waste Walruses (0-2, LW:13) - The defense was strong for the first 7 quarters of the season but then fell apart. Their offense is still nowhere to be found. Can they turn things around in Greenland?
20. Lake Minnewanka Ice Orcas (0-2, LW:19) - Anthony Richardson just might not be ready to start yet. The run game was once again pretty good but the passing game isn't there and the defense could be doing better. They sink to the bottom but there is still hope as orcas are no strangers to the depths.

Week 4 Power Rankings:

1. Rio de Janeiro Pirates (3-0, LW:2) - Great teams find a way but man was that a lucky ending on both sides of the ball and special teams. With Hamilton losing, the Pirates claim the top spot they felt they deserved from the get-go.
2. Greenland Polar Bears (3-0, LW:4) - Honestly, it's tough to figure out just how good Greenland is. They haven't played too impressively and their opponents have 2 wins between them and they are between each other. That being said, they can't control their schedule and they are undefeated with what could be an elite defense. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.
3. Hamilton Hornets (2-1, LW:1) - The stat sheet shows Hamilton dominated on offense and defense but they didn't get the yardage at the right time while Hanoi did. Special teams was also a factor. Hamilton has yet to find a return game and they missed the long go-ahead FG late.
4. Phoenix Rubber Ducks (2-1, LW:7) - A very impressive road win in a very tough cold weather environment. The game got out of hand before Anchorage tried to make it look close.
5. Reykjavik Direwolves (2-1, LW:3) - They lost the game because they only try field goals from the 39 yard line or closer. They had the ball at the 40 and Lamar scrambles to run the clock out instead of throwing a quick hitter to the sideline for a FG chance. Dropping to 5 seems harsh when they should probably be 3-0 but they did lose and the teams above them have victories vs better teams.
6. Indianapolis Predators (2-1, LW:6) - They take care of business and stand pat in the rankings. Honestly, they could have moved up or down had results elsewhere been different. New Zealand struggling isn't helping them in the rankings but I'm sure they are loving it in the standings.
7. Anchorage Amphibians (1-2, LW:5) - The Amphibians now have two decisive losses to top 4 teams. Should they be rewarded for losses when they weren't that close? Honestly, no, but the rankings start getting very jumbled at this point. They just beat Little Rock, who probably looks the best of the teams that could be ranked here so Anchorage gets the benefit of the doubt for now. Losing again, even to another top team in Greenland, would definitely have them take a long tumble. The Benefit of the Doubt Bowl will get a spot on national TV.
8. Little Rock Uni Royals (2-1, LW:10) - They believed they should have been ranked ahead of the Bots and they definitely proved it with a beatdown. Next they host a surprisingly good Lancaster team.
9. Butte Bots (1-2, LW:9) - The Bots lose handily and they... don't fall? Am I on some high grade crack right now or what? Basically there is a pack of about 5 teams at 2-1 and 1-2 that are all comparable. The 2-loss teams have had the toughest schedules and been the most impressive overall so they stay ahead for now.
10. Hanoi Viet Kongs (1-2, LW:14) - Using who beat who gets really tough from this point forward. Many teams ranked soon after beat each other. Two of those teams beat Hanoi so it would make sense to put the Kongs closer to the bottom but at the same time those are two currently good teams in the rankings and Hanoi got the best win out of anyone. Hanoi was given a bit of benefit of the doubt after their poor start and judgment was held for after their game vs Hamilton. They passed so instead of falling to near the bottom, they stay closer to the top of the pack.
11. Egypt Starfalls (2-1, LW:8) - A strong defensive performance followed by a strong offensive performance. The Starfalls are looking like they could be a real threat. Could they get to 6 wins by the halfway point of the season?
12. Freiburg Venom (2-1, LW:11) - The Hanoi win was indeed impressive but the nature of the pack has them dropping a spot for now. It's just a giant cluster****.
13. Lancaster Fighting Amish (2-1, LW:15) - Now why isn't Lancaster ahead of Egypt? Well I think that Freiburg is better and they are a buffer that keeps the head to head victory from influencing the rankings. Lancaster gets the Sunday Night spotlight this week.
14. Tokyo Samurai (1-2, LW:17) - They got the predicted upset victory and now they look to avoid being on the wrong end of one when they travel to Wattsville.
15. New Zealand Blobfish (1-2, LW:12) - The offense couldn't get it going against the Ice Orcas. They are lucky not to fall further thanks to Lancaster looking good at the moment.
16. Scranton Papermakers (1-2, LW:13) - The Papermakers are at a crossroads. They have only beaten a winless team but they almost beat an undefeated one before losing to a middling team. splitting their next 2 games won't help clear that up.
17. Cincinnati Buffleheads (1-2, LW:16) - The early promise seems to maybe be overblown. The loser of Cincinnati vs Scranton will be in deep trouble.
18. Lake Minnewanka Ice Orcas (1-2, LW:20) - The Orcas still don't have an offense but they get their first win on the strength of their defense.
19. Burlington Sock Puppets (0-3, LW:18) - Not a horrible performance but they slide down as the Orcas clear their goose egg.
20. Wattsville Waste Walruses (0-3, LW:19) - These Walruses are definitely in the wastes right now. Straight trash ;) . Honestly, their defense might be pretty good but their offense is non-existent.

Good game @LAOJoe

For sure thought i was going to witness heartbreak for a 3rd straight week late in the 4th quarter. One onside kick from being 2-1 with a different view on my team.

Predictions are in!

  1. Reykjavík Direwolves @ Freiburg Venom
    Winner: Freiburg Venom
Reasoning: The Direwolves, led by their captain Lamar "Field Goal" Johnson, stick to their predictable strategy of aiming for field goals only within the 39-yard line. However, Freiburg Venom, resembling the cunning tactics of Littlefinger from "Game of Thrones," exploit this predictability to outmaneuver them and secure a victory.

TV Character Equivalent for Freiburg Venom: Petyr Baelish (Littlefinger) from "Game of Thrones"

TV Character Equivalent for Reykjavík Direwolves: Sansa Stark from "Game of Thrones"

  2. Lancaster Fighting Amish @ Little Rock Uni Royals
    Winner: Lancaster Fighting Amish
Reasoning: The Amish, with their unwavering determination and simple yet effective tactics, reminiscent of Dwight Schrute from "The Office," overpower the Royals, who struggle to adapt to their unique playing style.

TV Character Equivalent for Little Rock Uni Royals: Jim Halpert from "The Office"

  3. Hamilton Hornets @ Butte Bots
    Winner: Hamilton Hornets
Reasoning: The Hornets, embodying the strategic prowess of Frank Underwood from "House of Cards," manipulate the game to their advantage, while the Bots, akin to the clumsy antics of Michael Scott from "The Office," fumble their chances of victory.

  4. Anchorage Amphibians @ Greenland Polar Bears
    Winner: Greenland Polar Bears
Reasoning: The Amphibians, reminiscent of the adventurous spirit of SpongeBob SquarePants, find themselves out of their element against the sturdy defense of the Polar Bears, who mirror the resilience of Ned Stark from "Game of Thrones."

TV Character Equivalent for Anchorage Amphibians: SpongeBob SquarePants

  5. Egypt Starfalls @ Indianapolis Predators (TNF)
    Winner: Indianapolis Predators
Reasoning: The Predators, embodying the ruthless ambition of Frank Underwood from "House of Cards," strategically outmaneuver the Starfalls, who, resembling the mystical allure of Daenerys Targaryen from "Game of Thrones," falter in the face of calculated tactics.

TV Character Equivalent for Egypt Starfalls: Daenerys Targaryen from "Game of Thrones"

  6. Tokyo Samurai @ Wattsville Waste Walruses
    Winner: Tokyo Samurai
Reasoning: The Samurai, displaying the disciplined skill of Jon Snow from "Game of Thrones," swiftly overpower the Walruses, whose chaotic gameplay mirrors the antics of Charlie Harper from "Two and a Half Men."

  7. New Zealand Blobfish @ Phoenix Rubber Ducks
    Winner: Phoenix Rubber Ducks
Reasoning: The Blobfish, resembling the bumbling antics of Joey Tribbiani from "Friends," struggle to find their footing against the agile maneuvers of the Rubber Ducks, who channel the resourcefulness of Leslie Knope from "Parks and Recreation" to secure a victory.

TV Character Equivalent for New Zealand Blobfish: Joey Tribbiani from "Friends"

  8. Rio de Janeiro Pirates @ Burlington Sock Puppets
    Winner: Rio de Janeiro Pirates
Reasoning: The Pirates, embodying the swashbuckling charm of Jack Sparrow from "Pirates of the Caribbean," outwit the Sock Puppets, who, akin to the lovable clumsiness of Mr. Bean, struggle to keep up with their cunning strategies.
