Bears pick Kiran Amegadjie with the 75th pick

Overview

With a rare blend of athletic traits and eye-popping length, it might be a mistake to bet against the high number of boxes Amegadjie checks. His hand usage is a work in progress, and he hasn't learned to consistently get into blocks with proper footwork and body control, but both issues are coachable and likely to be corrected. Provided he improves his punch-timing and placement, his ability to keep rushers at the end of his length could become a big advantage. Amegadjie already possesses impressive explosiveness as a drive blocker and could become a quality NFL starter once his tutelage is complete.

Strengths

  • Outstanding blend of size, athleticism and length.
  • Road-grading power to clear running lanes with leverage and force.
  • Light on his feet with the ability to get to challenging blocks in space.
  • Hands showed noticeable in-season improvement in pass protection.
  • Loose lower half provides foundation for NFL anchor strength.
  • Body control and lateral agility allow for consistent mirroring in pass pro.
  • Arms go on for days and will be some of the longest in the draft.
  • Displays impressive torque-and-turn power in his hips as base blocker.

Weaknesses

  • Acclimation to jump in competition level might take some time.
  • Still needs plenty of work with hand placement and punch timing.
  • Hasn't learned to reset hands and make the most of his length.
  • Average instincts in recognition of twists.
  • Lacking consistent footwork to square into initial contact with efficiency.
  • Feel for positioning and angles as a run blocker need work.

  • Sugashane changed the title to Bears pick Kiran Amegadjie with the 75th pick

Big upside, and potential leverage against having to overpay Braxton. Fills the swing tackle position immediately, and doesn't have to be forced into the mix early since he needs development.

Knew they liked him overall... Expected it more in the 4th round than the 3rd.

Amegadjie has LT traits...if Braxton Jones went down we have no one else on that roster who can play LT (don't move Wright from RT) with a rookie QB making sure you have a backup LT is essential...no doubt he will take some time to develop and truly compete with Braxton but it's two cheap contracts at key positions...Amegadjie also played RG as well as LT in college so could slide inside if needs be...again could be a long term replacement for Teven Jenkins and not Braxton Jones.

Sure playing against really smart gym teachers but still better than a kick in the balls

I saw reports that he had 99th percentile length..... but hot damn those are long arms. His elbows are almost at his waist.

Ha. We have no one to play LT if Braxton goes down....

But years pryer same ppl were saying Jenkins is our LT when he was drafted....

I know nothing of this guy. Hope he's good.

He was drafted to play LT...and sucked...you don't then move him out of his spot at guard where he has been pretty good back to a spot he can't play.

I'm happy with the pick.  A high-ish investment at a premium position right after we took a QB at 1.1.  Can't complain much about that.  He may be developmental, but it's the third round, so what do you really expect?  I was also interested in Zinter here.  Let him rehab for the year and then if/when Teven leaves in the offseason we have his replacement.  But alas, KA will do.
