The Early Strengths of the 2025 Class

It's never too early to start thinking of next years draft class!

Looking at some far too early mock drafts and it looks like there's some very nice Defenders this year. What are the early strengths for this class in your opinion? What are the positions that are deep vs. weak?

Based on my notes and looking around at some early big boards, here's how I'd rank the draft strengths from strongest to weakest this year by position:

EDGE, DL, RB, CB, TE, WR, OT, S, QB, IOL, LB.

Could include these guys but some are pretty down there in terms of rating.  Diggs could be really good and same with Joyner who was great last year.  Gabe Jacas and Jalon Walker are two others but not sure either one declare but both could be really good but are more 3/4 OLBs than DE where most of these guys are that.  Abdul Carter moving to DE or 3/4 OLB edge I am not a fan of, he was so great in the middle or as a standup LB but it will be interesting, I guess could increase his versatility as a player but he seems a little light to be a true edge and is better in coverage and on the move than held up on the line.  And it is a projection but if Rueben Bain Jr or Kenyatta Jackson have good years a RS SOPH players they could declare but I doubt they will, Jackson will not get a ton of time on that edge with Sawyer and Tuimoloau but who knows.  Bain could be a ton of action though but with NIL not sure he declares.

DE

Jah Joyner Minnesota RS
Fadil Diggs Syracuse RS
Danny Striggow Minnesota RS
Jared Ivey Ole Miss RS
Johnny Walker Jr Missouri RS
Ethan Downs Oklahoma
Barryn Sorrell Texas
Van Fillinger Utah
Tyler Baron Louisville RS
James Thompson Jr Wisconsin RS
Kyle Kennard South Carolina RS
Reggie Grimes Oklahoma RS
Darian Varner Cincinnati RS
Eric Gregory Arkansas RS
Jack Sullivan USC RS
Connor O'Toole Utah
Collin McCarthy UCONN
Nana Osafo-Mensah TCU RS
Trace Ford Oklahoma RS

Watson has a chance to be better than Jackson on Florida but we will see and Ty Robinson could be a monster 3/4 DE.  Also Oatis could have a monster year but time will tell, that guy is huge.  Not sure TJ Sanders declares or Farmer but Chris McClellan will be interesting transferring over to Missouri, he is super talented.

DT or 3/4 DE

Ty Robinson Nebraska RS
Tim Keenan III Alabama RS JR
Jaheim Oatis Alabama JR
Ty Hamilton Ohio State
Desmond Watson Florida
Voi Tunuufi Washington*
Warren Brinson Georgia RS
Tim Smith Alabama RS
Octavious Oxendine Kentucky RS
Ricky Barber UCF RS
Trill Carter Auburn RS
Omari Thomas Tennessee RS
Jermayne Lole Oklahoma RS

DL and Edge seem very strong. I think there are a couple of guys in this class who would have been Edge 1 if they were draftable.

I would add Tyler Baron (transfer portal), Patrick Jenkins (Tulane), and Ethan Burke (Texas) to that list.

From a thousand yard overview, way too far out...it definitely feels like it's going to pick up the slack in terms of Edge and DLine players from this year's weak draft there.

The QB class is interesting.  Right now, it looks a lot wider than it is tall.  That is to say, there are an awful lot of intriguing prospects who could really move on up with a great final college season.  But there's really no "bluechip" headliner to speak of.  I'd be shocked if at least one or two of those guys didn't have a heck of a season to really separate themselves from the crowd though.  Others will inevitably lay an egg and fall off into Day3 obscurity.

Shadows of the 2023 QB class.

There are a few that look like they could make a step and immediately get there.  I'd think Sheduer Sanders is the obvious favorite, with Carson Beck the other.  Ewers I feel like is next year's Penix/Nix: has his fans, but is what he is and unless the class ends up super weak, he'll be like QB 3 or 4.  Jalen Milroe could get there if he improves.  He'd need to improve a lot, but he did improve a lot over the course of the season at Bama, and now has a prime offensive mind coaching him.

Other than that, it's a lot of guys that have been starters for a while, but look more like inevitable middle to late rounders than possible breakouts.  Maybe Jaxson Dart or Drew Aller could work their way up there, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Rich in midround backup types though.  Cam Ward, Riley Leonard, Dillon Gabriel, DJ Uiagelelei, Tyler Van Dyke, Will Rogers, Grayson McCall, and Noah Fifita are all there imo.

Could be a really intriguing TE class; Loveland is obviously TE1 at the moment, he should be option #1/2 in that UM pass game this year. Mitchell Evans and Luke Lachey could be the next in the line of ND and Iowa elite TE prospects. Oscar Delp is going to step into Bowers role at UGA, Benjamin Yurosek transferred in from Stanford and could fly up boards with a productive year there too. I like Mason Taylor from LSU a lot as a day 2 TE. Jake Briningstool, Caden Prieskorn, RJ Maryland, Harold Fannin, Bryson Nesbit, Gavin Bartholomew have all been productive players too. Brant Kuithe profiles as a fun H-back type like Bell this year too.

Yeesh.  Yeah, that's not a good look.  I mean, I get wanting to defend your dad and all, but that's not a good attitude.

No gonna matter if he's the best QB prospect though, but not a great start.

So I already hate Sanders.

me too.

Sanders and his kids are awful cocky for winning 4 games. I hope they lose even more this year.

Good story at Jackson St. and has been nothing but crap since.
