If this happens he's the starter going into the season no way we trade him....TB starts and the rookie takes all the 2nd reps with McCown as insurance

This is best case scenario for us. Build his trade value for next off season. Let the rookie take his time and develop.  See KC and Alex Smith.

Dunno.  KC was lucky to have Tyler Bray as #2. Pat Mahomes won #2 job.  No harm done.

Huh?

I am saying if TB wins job. Plays well in 2018.  Rookie QB wins #2 and shows good development. McCown is insurance and semi-coach.  We can trade TB next off season like KC did with Smith.  And start Rookie in 2019.

Teddy is on a 1 year deal, we would need to franchise him

Nope.  Trade him.

Correct

Which is an idiotic move.   Who will willingly fork over high picks for TB the one year performer.   We will stuck with him and bury #3 draftee again.   Jets traded away a lot just to keep #3 in depth for two years in a row?  Think again.

There is always a market for a starting QB in the NFL.  Again this is all speculative but a tag and trade is not out of the question.  Even if we got back a 2 or a 3 or even a 4 ... you get something back. You can always resend the tag if you can't move him.

QB market is stronger if you are FA.

Disagree that McCown is locked in.  He will get first shot but he is not guaranteed at all.

Oh yeah, he will start without a doubt.  For how long is the legit question for him.  They can't have both TB and McCown on the same team. Especially, we will have #3 draftee aboard.  End of discussion.

If any team wants to have McCown via a trade then by all means, Jets can milk qb value for TB.

LMAO - so QB needy teams don't trade for a QB???  Hmmmm I seem to remember QBs being traded recently.

If both are on the team, mostly likely one will get 3rd team reps so the rookie gets 2nd team reps.  Ideally that would be McCown as he is a good locker room guy and can mentor the rookie.  That is McCown's real value this year to the NYJs - mentoring the rooking.

He won't start over McCown at all.   McCown is a lock for a starting qb no matter what.

And I am simply saying the ideal situation aside from the rookie lighting it up from day one and winning the job is the following:

Bridgewater wins the job.  Rookie takes 2nd team snaps to gain experience. McCown be the mentor/player coach for the rookie.  TB build his value to give us potential option of a trade.  Don't know how any Jets fan would picture a better situation for this year.

If you speak of Jimmy Garoppolo for 2nd round pick, that is a wishful thinking.

Alex Smith was traded twice. He is a 10+ veteran. TB has at least 2 and 1/4 (3 years in your case) seasons in action.

Jacoby Brissett was traded to Colts for a player. whoever he is.

Trevor Siemian and late round pick are sent to Vikings for 2019 pick.

Really, nothing excites me about TB's trade value.
