To public and media, it is a competition. McCown and Bates know each other from last year. He has strong character and work ethic. Bridgewater has those too but doesn't know Bates well.  That gives McCown an edge.

Think your way off on that.  McCown's value is his locker room leadership and mentor/player coach to the rookie QB - exactly for your the reasons you listed (knows Bates and his strong character and work ethic).  Bowles said he was starter entering off season program out of respect for his play last year and his position in the locker room.  Facts are the Jets will want to start either Bridgewater or the rookie. McCown is the back up plan if Teddy is not healthy and the rookie not ready.

Same value as prior to week 1.  What is the point to have Bridgewater for one full season?

Because we need a young QB for the future.  We certainly hope who we pick at 3 is the guy but if not perhaps Teddy is.  Additionally, if not healthy week 1 and McCown starts - when (not if) McCown needs to miss a game or more with injury better to throw Teddy out there then force the rookie if not ready.  Finally, coaches and GMs try to set themselves up to win, the obviously feel 3 QBs to compete is better then a 39 year old that has never played a full season and a rookie.

The only way your logic makes sense is if the rookie is denied 2nd team reps and some 1st reps because of the other two QBs.  I don't think that will be the case as McCown proved last year he can perform without a ton reps (Hack and Petty got most the 1st team reps in camp and pre-season games) and if Teddy is not healthy or not performing we are not committed past this year.

So again, it is really Teddy and the rookie we are evaluating.  McCown is the fail safe not the priority to start.

Agreed much like they wanted to start the kid(Hack) last year but he didn't take advantage. Bridgewater will have every shot IMO to be the starter.

Exactly. McCown is the back up buy time plan till the younger QB is ready (Teddy or rookie).

As much as I want Ebron, it’s starting to feel like the Jets have no interest. They brought back Tomlinson and tendered Neal Sterling at $1.9 million, plus they have Leggett. Wouldn’t be shocked if they didn’t even sign another TE, depending on how they feel about Leggett.
