We're 6-7m under? Where are you getting you estimates from?

So it looks like OTC has set the 2024 cap at $256M (https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space)and spotrac has it at $240M (https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/2024/), I had not noticed they are so far apart.

I was using spotrac's $6M (with 40 players under contract) and assuming $16M for the draft class, and roughly $10M for a piggy bank in season. So 6-16-10 = -$20M

I also verify my rough numbers to Ken Ingalls https://twitter.com/KenIngalls/status/1719457147266699528/photo/1, who came up with $18.9M over.

Just releasing Bakhtiari could be tricky.  I've heard mention that he could file an injury grievance and if he won he'd get all of his dough.  it's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out.  I doubt he retires since there is so much dough on the line.  He doesn't seem like the type that will just walk away from it.  I think he and Packers have a decent relationship, so hopefully something can be worked out.  He very well might wind up back in GB for another go.

I think the jist of an injury grievance is that you can't cut someone in the year of the injury.

And to file a 2024 grievance, you'd have to argue that the Packers medical staff screwed something up from the previous injury, so not exactly an easy thing to prove.

But as Ken points out, if there is a grievance the packers would have to carry 40% of his claim amount (in this case, 40% of $20M would be $8M). But if he stays on the team in 2024, his cash offer is a minimum of $9.5M in roster bonus and $1.5M in base salary, so if you're DB the best way for you to make money is by staying with the Packers, even if they cut your base salary from $10.7 to $3-4M.
