Some dumb people calling in on the Midday 180. Apparently we have 5-11 talent and Mularkey overachieved lmao.

Wait there are really people who thought Mularkey/Robiskie and staff should've been retained? LMAO how much are these clowns getting paid to call in and how can they do it without laughing.

We can’t bring him in as a OC when he’s under contract as OC, he can only come to us with a promotion & that’s either him as a HC or OC/assistant HC

And even if we are offering a promotion, the Rams could block it.

Just watching some interviews on youtube of LaFleur, he doesn't strike me as ready to lead a team. He'd be towards the bottom of my list at the moment.

I don't believe they can block it if it's for HC. Someone would have to fact check me.

Even as OC we can could interview potentially. Obviously, they could block it, but he doesn't call the plays in LA, so, if they like him and don't want him pissed off at missing a good opportunity to be the play-caller, they could allow it. McVay is the sole play-caller. OC is basically just a title for him.

No he’s saying they can block it if we’re reaching out to him as an OC, only way get Leflaur is as a HC

SMH.

When the team is 8-4 and in the driver's seat for the division, yet you finish 9-7 with a wildcard, that's not overachieving, that's nearly choking away the playoffs.

I'm pretty sure they can block all lateral moves. Teams I think can deny a coach under contract under any circumstance.  Of Course, they don't because who would work for anyone that wouldn't allow them a move up.
Like you said, I think it comes down to what LaFluer would want to do and how close he is to McVay. Maybe they bring him in with someone like Vrabel and make him asst.HC and OC. Making him have it on his resume being in total control of the offense.

But I think it's either HC or no LaFluer.

You let Neil O'Donnell convince you? lol  :)

I’ve been thinking about it for a little bit. I’m usually against retreads but he intrigues me. Get the 4-3 D back. I’m only with it though if he brings DeFilippo with him.  Plus I think he’s the type of coach that could put a good staff together unlike some rookie coaches.

What is it about LaFleur that makes him your top guy?

I'm actually curious about this guy. Sounds like we have him scheduled, and all I know of him is that he was the OC for the Rams this past season... but frankly I put a hell of a lot more credit for that team's offensive turnaround (and Goff's development) in the hands of McVay and not LaFleur... I hope he isn't a guy who is simply riding the coattails of a brilliant mind and then given way too much control (head coach offer) when he's clearly going to be in over his head and flop.

I think NFL circles have him closely linked and integral in that Shannahan/McVay brain trust.  He was the QB coach for RG3 and Cousins from their rookie seasons.  He then went with Shannahan to Atlanta, and was Ryan's QB coach during his MVP season last year.  Shannahan thought he was a shoe in for OC there after he left, but Atlanta didn't see him in that role, so McVay brought him aboard his ship.  (That ATL admission is somewhat concerning).

So eventhough he's never had to be the guy calling plays, many see him as a wunderkind... an offensive genius who has been a key part of both Shanahan and McVay's successes.

Everywhere he's been, QB's just do better...http://sportsmockery.com/2017/11/matt-lafleur-name-must-top-bears-coaching-search/:

It didn’t take him long to acclimate to it. The tandem of Donovan McNabb and Rex Grossman threw for over 4,200 yards his first year on the job. A year later he got 3,000 yards from Grossman in just 13 games. Then in 2012 the Redskins drafted Robert Griffin III, who promptly went to the Pro Bowl and won Rookie of the Year.

After the coaching staff was dismissed in 2014, Lafleur was hired by Brian Kelly to be the quarterbacks coach at Notre Dame. The impact was immediate and electric. Everett Golson, who’d thrown 12 touchdowns his previous year as a starter, threw 29 his first year under Lafleur. A year later Lafleur left. Golson threw 11 touchdowns that season.

The coach was heading to the Atlanta Falcons, summoned by former colleague Kyle Shanahan to take the quarterbacks job. A year later in 2016 Matt Ryan had the best season of his career with 4,944 yards, 38 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He won MVP and the Falcons reached the Super Bowl. This year Ryan is on pace for 4,216 yards, 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

...He’s a specialist with quarterbacks. To top it off he’s received on-the-job training by some of the best in the business for close to a decade.

There's also this...

Quote

"So thankful to have him here," McVay said earlier this year about LaFleur, via USA Today. "He's as responsible as anybody for the success our offense has had. In terms of organizing the game plans, being able to run the meetings, making sure that everything is in alignment on the same page, he does it all. Can't say enough about the contribution he has made to our team."

"They’re getting a hell of a coach," Shanahan said during the NFL Scouting Combine, via ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. "... Matt understands the game. He played college quarterback. He knows a lot about that position. He knows the run game, he knows the pass game, he knows how to tie them together."

Is that enough to make him the best available HC candidate?  I don't know... but if they're thinking, he'd be the best, but he needs a year more, etc... they need to hire him. We won't be looking for a new HC in a year or two... and he probably won't be available after that.

If they think he's the best fit... if they think he has the best plan for the offense, defense, and MAriota going forward, I trust they'll make the right hire.

So any news or rumors of other candidates coming in besides Average Joe's Peter LaFleur, Wilks, and Vrabel? Working today can't scour as much as I'd like too haha

Naw, nothing today.  Just digging into the guys more.  It snowed here pretty good in Nashville. Don't know if that will delay any interviews.

We talked about it before but just to mention it again but I’m all for going to a 4-3 just point out to me who plays where in regards to Rak and Woodyard? Would Rak play DE or OLB? I’m assuming Morgan goes back to DE? Does Woodyard play MLB? I’m just curious how hard is it to go from a 3-4 to a 4-3. Casey and Williams are good DTs to have. Dodd would probably benefit as a DE. Just curious how hard would the transformation be. If we were to switch to a 4-3 how important is it to hit on a defensive player in the first couple of rounds or is there a FA the Titans should be targeting if we go back to a 4-3?

Shouldn’t be hard at all considering most of our guys have played in a 4-3. Morgan, Dodd, and Orakpo would all be DEs. We have the DL but obviously we’d still have to find a young talented pass-rusher. The LBs would be the only issue. Williamson is a FA and doesn’t belong in a 4-3. Woodyard is likely the MLB. Need to find a weak side and SAM LB. Jayon Brown may fit as a WLB. Certainly has the athletic traits but it takes a lot more than that. LB would definitely be a huge need.

I believe they can, but it is not commonly (ever?) done. Have trouble convincing any other coordinator worth a damn to work there if you are going to block them from being a head coach.
