So with the rules being provided, WAS can tag Cousins, but this being the 3rd time, they are the only team that can negotiate a LTD with him.

So if tag and trade were to be allowed, WAS could tag him at $35M and trade him to a team that would be stuck with that $35M for 2018 without the ability to do a LTD

OR

Was could tag him and work out a LTD according to the APY and SB requirements laid out in the TCMD.  Then WAS could trade him and take the cap hit for 2018 based on the cap ramifications in trading a player.

Is that the summary of options?

That sounds correct.

if this is correct, could Washington work out a LTD with no SB $$$$ (and thus no dead $$$)?

Not according to the TCMD rules for extensions

That would be super unrealistic.

Yup...if we are going for realism, why would Cousins sign a deal without a big SB?

Seems silly for WAS to want to work out an extension with $40+M in signing bonus needed and then trade him only to have to eat that SB as dead cap.  It would cost more to do that than let Cousins play on the Franchise tag at $35M

Based on the TCMD info on expected SB of $6.9M on a 5-7 year expected deal

That should be our option though.  We shouldn’t be restricted from trading him.

As long as it does not create SUPER MORE work for Mike & he (+ other GMs are cool with it), I would co-sign

As long as there is some downside to the tag&trade so we don't have people "gaming" the system
