Jsthomp Mock Draft - You know you want it!

*Broncos trade the #5 overall to the Bills for #12 and #22 overall

*Broncos sign Mercedes Lewis, TE, UFA Jacksonville Jaguars (the Broncos always make a draft day signing)

1.12 -  Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA - While I love Chubb and if we are at #5, I take him or Barkely... Barkley if he is available (but, I don't he will be).  I don't feel like there is a huge drop from Chubb to Davenport.  If the Broncos can land Davenport over Chubb, while landing another #1 draft pick, that is a good move.

1.22 - Will Hernandez - Guard - UTEP - We know the Broncos hired their HC as our OL coach...it makes WAY to much sense to draft Hernandez to solidify that interior line.  I would love to think the Broncos land a bona-fide RT, but are they unicorns, do they exist anymore?

2.40 - Jaire Alexander - CB - Louisville - I love this guy...one of my favorites int he dafter....borderline first rounder who I a team might draft in the first.  But, if he is there at 40...a backfield of Roby, Jaire, Harris Jr, Craven, Simmons, and/or, Stewart...come on!!!  Where do QB throw to with that backfield?

3.71 - Sony Michel - RB - UGA - I don't think the Broncos will keep CJ. That will leave a backfield to Booker, who I love...I love me some Booker; but, he cannot stay on the field.  And, while Sony may be a similar player, he hits home runs in BIG games.  I also would take Nick Chubb here too, considering that he is bigger than Sony...but, I living Georgia and watching the two (both are really good and in a sense inter-changeable here), I just saw Sony show up in the playoffs where Chubb didn't..not that Chubb did not...just not as much.  SO, take who you want here...Chubb or Michel...either one...good!!!

3.99 - Josey Jewell - ILB - Iowa - I read articles that the Broncos are in search of ILB help.  Okay...I will believe it when I see it.  However, if the rumors are true...then is Jewell bad with our second 3rd round pick...probably not.  If the Bronco go Roquan at #5, I won't hate the pick at all.  However, I also don't see a big drop off between him and Jewell.  Jewell is less heralded, but I think production-wise, he is as good at they get in terms of a tackling machine...which..and I pretty sure you all forget that I nailed the Trevathan pick...I think this pick similar where you get a guy who can play the run and cover.  Put him on the field with Craven and TEs/RBs have no where to go!

4.113 -  DJ Chark - WR - LSU - He was the fastest wide receiver at the combine.  The Broncos need a certain #3, and they need an eventual starter as Sander and Thomas begin to age.  I do not know a lot about Clark, but he makes sense here based on what I have read.

5.149 - Orlando Brown - OL - Oklahoma - I think that his poor combine results in the Broncos' benefit in drafting a solid right tackle prospect.

5.160 - Hayden Hurst - TE - South Carolina - Think the Broncos double down on the TE prospects as Lewis might be too old and and Butt may not workout.

If you don't like this mock [MOD EDIT]

^^^well. you read the last line there, right?

You gotta remove that line, or I'll do it for ya.  I know your style, and that it's all in good fun but it does violate forum rules, so please remove.

As for the mock, I like it.  I'm intrigued at trading down with the Bills.  I think there's a decent shot that it happens, as that team is no doubt looking to move up.  Idk much about Davenport but if we got an impact edge rusher and a day 1 starter at LG I'd be pumped.  Love the CB in the 2nd as well, and have read a little about the linebacker.  I don't think Orlando Brown falls that far, but if he did fall out of the 2nd round I think the Broncos should take a flyer.

Chark isn't lasting to Rd4, Michel to Rd3, or Hurst to Rd5.  Hurst is likely Rd2-3, Chark Rd2 (or even Rd1 late if the speed entices someone), and Michel Rd2.    It's why it looks great on paper.

I get why you want to trade down to get Hernandez, but Davenport is significantly less polished in technique and way behind in hand-fighting than Chubb.   Personally I'd just go off the big board at 1.12 BPA, Davenport's well behind.

Alexander & Jewell would be very good values at their spots taken above.

Alright..... you might be right about Davenport, but I have read a lot of chatter where the Packers like him at 14...even better would be to get Roquon at 12..if you could take your pick, which would it be?

Wouldn't that be a decent spot for Edmunds?

Landry at 12 I could get on board with. Three picks after that are home runs.

Yeah his explosiveness is just unreal.   Davenport is all projection, Landry has production and projection.    I'd be all over Landry over Davenport - I know a lot of ranks have Davenport 2 and Landry 3, but that's always because of projection - those 3 are the top tier of EDGES, although Chubb belongs in a tier by himself, but then it's Landry next IMO.

This is my issue with a trade back - the 22 pick is very much a value pick for need/overall BPA.   1.12 is really iffier who you take.   I actually get why CIN traded back to 1.21, their need is likely interior OL, and they can have 2 spots filled now instead of 1, with a guy they were likely to be there at 1.21 as 1.12.

I have no problem with either of the LB's, but I suspect OAK and MIA could take the top 2 ILB's if MIA doesn't go QB (who knows what MIA will do, it's Tannebaum).    Roquan I prefer because he's the complete package, whereas Edmunds' ceiling is higher than Smith because of his size....but the floor is much lower, because his instincts are mega-raw.  Roquan I could get behind at 1.12, but TBH he's not as good as Foster was last year.   I'd probably go Landry.

I think we will be in on a CB like Alexander and an ILB like Jewell.   I was going to have Jewell in my mock (coming soon).  I think Davenport is more of a project, so for me, I would go with someone who is a no-doubt starter at #12.   Maybe a running back like Guice or Vita Vea if he is there.  Either way, I think Davenport is more of a specialist/project.  I would also strongly consider Ridley there.  Although we never draft Alabama guys, he could be the heir apparent to DT and would see the field a lot as a rookie.  If we did do a trade down with Buffalo, I like getting the top player at a position at #12 (Vea, Ward will be gone, Roquan, Ridley) would fit that bill.

I’m on board with both if this is an “and” proposition, however, I believe it’s, “or”, so, i’m settling for the latter because I’d want more from buffalo in the trade.

DEN can always ask - but with no teams at 6-10 looking for QB it’s hard to see BUF paying for more.   Would need MIA/ARI to get into a bidding contest and they might be more willing to aim for the 5th QB further down than moving all the way up to 1.5.

You're discounting the possibility that a smart GM sees that the best players in the draft, Nelson, Chubb and Barkley have fallen to 5 due to extremely overdrafted QB's and make a move up to get one.

I'm not discounting anything - but the price BUF sets at 1.12 and 1.22 would have to be beaten, that's the original premise.    Saying we'd want more means that someone can beat that offer - if the goal is to get more than 1.12 and 1.22, it's hard to see anyone paying their 1st and next year's 1st AND extra picks- because BUF is the only team that has 2 2018 1sts, that's the offer (2018 1st & 2019 1st) you need just to match BUF's hypothetical offer.    I don't even think ARI or MIA would entertain that for the 4th QB in this draft (well, I should say in theory, nothing logical's a given with Tannenbaum).
