Bears could be interested in trading too much for Khalil Mack

I think we should stop dreaming about Mack in GB. This team is not deep enough to part with the assets to land him. I would flip Denver a 3rd for Ray instead, he looks great this preseason. They drafted Chubb and didn't pick up his option so Denver may be looking to moved on from him. With Gilbert that would give you 4 legit pass rushers. We need those high picks for Edge and RT, our OL depth is horrendous, Spriggs is a bust and will get Rodgers killed, and Madison is in limbo. Guy may never play a down in the NFL. We need to use that draft capital to fix the OL. Landing Mack would plug one hole but open a floodgate in other areas.

It's not a dream if it actually happens.

I'm definitely in the re-sign Matthews for two years, draft edge and OT with our two first round picks to have Matthews, Perry, first round pass rusher, youth at OL and millions in cap space club.

Matthews won't be a starter next year IMO, borderline already this year with how poor his between the tackles run defense and edge setting is. I find it hard he's going to agree to a deal that he's worth.

PR - you didn't enjoy this one from Clay  ?

I said between the tackles and edge setting, made a clear emphasis to mention those because Clay has always been a plus player to the boundaries. He can't hold an edge though and it's gotten worse with age. He's an attacker, upfield player, watch Perry, he can sit there and anchor on that edge, if Clay tries that he gets blown out of the hole. He has to shoot a gap, and if he shoots wrong all he does is create a hole.

If I'm a DC this is his last year as a starter, his next contract I'm offering him top rush specialist money, those guys who play 15-20 plays a game purely to get the QB.

Got it thx

Is it just age or the result of no longer having Dr. Mike Neal providing services ?

Setting an edge was never really Clay's game. I felt like having guys like Pickett, Raji, Woodson, Bishop/Hawk compensated a bit and let him be more aggressive without the consequences.

Lately I just feel it was our lack of depth, we didn't have Peppers, Neal, Jones to come off the bench and help.

If Clay is resigned he needs to be kicked inside because he can't get home on the edge anymore. He and Martinez would make a good inside tandem and they can just let Burks play on passing downs.

There's no reason to believe Clay can't be an effective pass rusher if you limit the miles he takes on per game. If you just want him as an ILB only, absolutely no sense in re-signing him, just get Ryan back on the cheap.
