Dude we’re talking about USC.  We aren’t diverting tax payer dollars from Sesame Street to fund the Trojans.  It’s Rich and Privileged U.

If Aunt Becky was bribing a state official to get into a public school I’d have more sympathy for the feds but as it stands this sounds like BS to me.

This is not something the FBI should be worried about.  They should focus on jihadists, cartels, and mob bosses getting shot in the middle of ******* New York City.  Of course “getting” high profile rich (taxpayers) is all that gets headlines these days so why the hell not.

There are plenty of public schools on the list. Bribery, tax evasion, and money laundering are absolutely crimes the FBI should be worried about. They can do this and run counter-terrorism and counter intelligence investigations. Honestly, it wouldn't even be the same branch of the FBI.

Bribery is the context of a public transaction is not a federal crime.

Tax evasion maybe, if they wrote these payments off as charitable donations.  That’s about the only crime I see here.

You're not looking very hard then considering the guy at the heart of it has already plead guilty to racketeering conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy, conspiracy to defraud the United States (tax evasion), and obstruction of justice.

Yes the guy who ran the thing clearly was laundering money and not paying his taxes.  Doesn’t mean the people who paid him were committing crimes.

If I pay my barber and he goes to the casino to launder money so he can avoid paying taxes, I’m not a criminal.  Even if I suspect or know he’s doing it.

The freaking Wilkie lawyer is not going down for this.  They will all get off.

in-unit laundry is a 100% deal-breaker for me.

I can't imagine a condo that is for sale wouldn't have hook ups. That is crazy to me.

That was one of my deal breakers when I started looking but I've relaxed on it some, I still really want it but I'm probably too cheap.

A garage is a deal breaker for me though, especially after this winter. Although after this winter I'm strongly considering just moving somewhere else in general. Nothing's really keeping me here other than a giant lack of ambition for looking for another job.

The kids or their parents are submitting the applications through CommonApp or whatever knowing full well they're listing honors they didn't get based but will be accepted based on bribes to coaches, with checks coming from the parents through Singer.

Singer was a middleman who connected parents who were willing to bribe with coaches and administrators who could be bribed. That's fraud. And when you mail checks to commit fraud, you get charged with mail fraud. Which, spoiler alert, is exactly what happened.

Bribery, fraud, tax evasion, money laundering, and conspiracy are all crimes the FBI should 100% be involved in. It's stupid to suggest otherwise.

If lying on the common app was a crime there would be millions in jail.

Malum prohibitum on a technicality at worst.  They can put people in jail for signing a false name when receiving a USPS package.  Technically.  They can get anyone for something if they want.

Except thankfully these people have enough money to hire lawyers who are 10x smarter and better than the clowns who become US Atorneys.  So they’ll get off.

The Feds used to want to go after low life’s.  Now they use their energy to harrass the people who pay their salaries.  Goldman bankers, hot shot lawyers, NFL owners, TV actresses.  It’s sad what this world is coming to.

Bribing someone so they don't care that you're lying on the CommonApp is definitely a crime.

Don't evade taxes, don't launder money, don't bribe people, and don't enter into conspiracies to commit fraud and there won't be a problem.

Tbh I’ve seen no evidence that Aunt Becky laundered money or evaded taxes.

Bribing private citizens is not illegal.

Conspiracy to commit fraud is iffy iyam.

They have her checks and phone conversations arranging payments. She's dead to rights. She'll plead and get a fine so she avoids jail time.

I think there is very good evidence for fraud in a civil action brought by the college board or USC.  I don’t really see the elements of a criminal charge here tbh.  She may plead guilty and pay a fine because it’s not worth the hastle.
