Ppl knew who Alex was. A safe QB who would win the turnover battle for you and would let your defense have a good chance to decide the game themselves, which worked with the defense we currently have. Last year’s performance was just a bonus if he could come close to matching that.

That may have been your thoughts, except that's not what was sold by the team. What was repeatedly sold by the team and multiple posters here, was last year's "best deep passer" who would "throw the 50/50 balls" Cousins wouldn't.

The issue at hand is asset management.  The Redskins had all of the leverage because Mahomes was clearly taking over this year.  There was no need to give up both Fuller and the pick.

Had this discussion lots of times on here. If the Redskins and Chiefs were the only two teams in the league, you’d be correct. In an open auction scenario, as that was, you don’t just have to beat the value of keeping him — you have to beat the other bidders. When we know there were 6 or 7 teams bidding for him, it’s painfully oversimplified analysis to say “KC was always going to get rid of him, we shouldn’t have paid so much.”

If you think they shouldn’t have been willing to go to that price, that’s fine. But it’s just silly to think all they had to do was wait out KC and they’d have gotten a Pro Bowl QB for table scraps just because KC decided they had a better option.

Lot of that here at this article- http://www.espn.com/blog/washington-redskins/post/_/id/35935/jay-gruden-alex-smiths-mobility-can-help-change-offense

LOL at Doug Williams saying Gruden's offense can churn out 4,000 yard guys.  If so, we did we give up so much for Smith if any guy can do it?
