That first play was a run/pass option. But I don't mind warming him up with some passes.

The other side as I said is tradition.  The Lions and Cowboys wanted Thanksgiving before anybody else in the league did. This league is built on tradition.  Celebrating 100 years next year.  Traditions matter.

I know this happens at every stadium but I always laugh when the anthem singer/halftime performer gets an intro like "This artist is a 100x multi-platinum world famous award winning legend of the music business!" and when they say the name, everyone has a collective look of "Who?" on their face.
