The narrative got going because Mac fans have needed to concoct excuses for his ridiculous refusal to play Jones over Williams and previously Montgomery. The can't play in the passing game narrative has been exposed as a fraud because Mac has been playing Jones plenty in passing situations. So now, it is that Jones is just too fragile to play much.
