Its A Sabotage

i think if we want a Replacement Mike and use him like Poz i think he can work.  just a 7th round gamble.

It's hard to really argue with a 7th round wager, but i don't think Deluca is a real Poz replacement.  The problem is, he already basically looks like "old athletically limited Poz in the NFL" that we were often a bit frustrated with when asked to do different things, but Deluca looks like that while playing against FCS athletes.  Ratchet the speed of the game up several big notches from that, and it probably isn't going to be pretty.  Which also kinda bleeds over into ST where a 7th round LBer flyer is probably going to have to make their case for the roster.  I don't doubt that he's smart, willing, and would try hard...i think you probably ideally want some better athletes there.

I mean, most any picks are realistically "fine" with a 7th rounder.  I just think there are other better athlete LBers who stand a decent chance of being there.  And that's if they actually don't address the LBer situation until that late in the first place, which i wouldn't really be a fan of.  I'd still like to see them draft that "3rd LBer" a bit earlier.  Working through the LBers this year, it's actually a stronger group than i initially thought.  There will be some guys that could be a starting SAM for us who will be available in the mid-rounds.

Tony Pauline did a 3 round mock

For the Jags, he has them taking:

Will Hernandez OG, Ian Thomas TE and Micah Kiser LB

I like the 1st and 2nd picks.  Don't like Kiser in the 3rd though.  I think that's far too literal a "Poz replacement".  Like above with Deluca, kinda seems like replacing Poz's weaknesses as much as trying to replace his strengths.  Kiser looks like pretty much a 2-down thumper, where you're gonna have some bad moments if asking him to do much of anything in coverage.  I think he could be really good in the right 2-down 3-4 ILB role somewhere.  Even though we'd be pulling him on pretty much every 3rd down anyway, it doesn't seem like a good fit.  Nor does it seem like good value to me.  There will pretty much guaranteed, be more athletic and versatile LBers with big upside available at that sort of pick.  Rather than more of a specialist like Kiser.

Are we not at all concerned about Williams medically?

Nothing has suggested to be worried about it. I'm taking the chance on a talent like his unless its a red flag, especially when we're picking all the way down at the bottom of the 1st.

i think he gets picked late 2 at worse.  im not a medical doctor but it kinda reminds me of the star heart problem leak early.

Or it could be something that keeps him from being cleared to play NFL games. Really depends on the severity and how each teams doctors feel about the risk there. Without the deets, I wouldn't be surprised to see him still go in the first, or slide all the way to the 5th round or something. Who really knows.

Yeah. I don't think there's a lot of worry about Williams health. He had an injury, rehabbed it and seems to be back. Unless there's some degenerative or lingering condition to it that hasn't been mentioned...

I feel like there are going to be so many awesome OL guys, I want one badly. Wynn/Hernandez/Williams/McGlinchey/Price. I just dont think we can go wrong if we go there

The OL in this draft, especially interior, is DEEP. Lot of guys on the outside that can possibly move inside for either the short or long-term as well.

All of these things coming out about our love for Hayden Hurst makes me wonder though. I would prefer we wait on TE until 2nd/3rd/4th, and go OL, but I do really like Hurst.

It is an interesting situation to be in considering both are very deep. You could make a case that we dont need to take either and could get both Round 2 and 3 but i'd rather not get cute. Get a big ugly and call it a day

Same. I feel like ASJ can be a very solid TE option both in the run and passing game long-term and although I want a TE2, I don't know that we need to spend a 1st on that unless it's an absolute stud. I like Hurst/Goedert, etc., but they're not game wrecker ala Gronk types.

With our commitment to the run game, I just feel like a possible RG replacement/backup RT behind an ageing Jeremy Parnell would be a good move. For the next 1-2 years, you have an OL for Cam/Norwell/Linder/1st round rookie/Parnell. That is a MASSIVE improvement on last year in which we were fairly solid compared to the rest of the NFL already.

I think we still need a TE1. ASJ cant be relied on to be a #1
