The only option for players to be placed on PUP is to be placed on it before the very first day of training camp. Once camp starts, it's either their on the roster, or go on IR or are waived/injured and revert to IR if they don't have the accrued seasons and aren't claimed. They can be taken off it PUP at any time during training camp and prior to the season, but if they are still on there on the first day of the season, then they HAVE to stay there for the first 6 weeks.
