NewAge
Angels going for it. I think they can maybe get Upton to opt in.
deltarich87
Long has backend rotation potential so not a terrible return for Detroit for a guy who likely is opting out of his deal once the season ends in 1-2 months. Of course, gotta see who the PTBNL is.
DalCowboyzRule
Why would Upton ever opt out of 4 years, $88.5 million? Also, it's weird how at one time this guy was thought of as the next face of baseball/MVP caliber player, and now he's about to be on his 5th team and he isn't even 31 yet. He'll get something comparable on an AAV basis this off season I think, and may land an extra year or so.

He's having one of the best seasons of his career and is only 30 yrs old. I think he'll be able to opt out and get an extra yr added on a new deal with maybe slightly more AAV tbh. ramssuperbowl99
Even if Upton only gets 4/$80M, he's made his money and may want to win. He gets to pick a team that isn't in complete selloff mode or only afloat because of Trout. And being in California now, if he goes to a non-income tax state 4/$80M might be a basically even with 4/$88M in Cali anyway.
deltarich87
Interesting. Deal was reported as RHP Grayson Long and a PTBNL for Justin Upton. Official press release says it's a PTBNL OR cash considerations Wonder if Detroit and Anaheim have an agreement to where if Upton opts out after this season, the Halos send cash, but if he opts in, the Angels send a decent prospect back since they'll have Upton for the next 4 seasons
devils1854
First good thing the Angels front office has done since drafting Trout?

Eppler has done a really good job as GM. Did a great job this winter in creating a good bullpen out of nothing.
