resilient part 2

Man, this would suck.

I don't think this is a disaster. I think if you were to trade back from 17, you could still get an equivalent (or possibly the exact same) cornerback, and add another top-75 pick to use on a WR. If you added a good #3 receiver to this haul, it would be a pretty good group.

And Terrell could also turn into burnt toast like he did in most of Clemson's big games last season.

After the national championship game, I had pretty much determined to hate Terrell. But the more I watched, the less resolve I had on that.  If Clemson loses before playing LSU, he'd probably a clear top-25 selection in everyone's mind. He got torched by a WR group that made just about everyone look foolish last year. It's not ideal, and the guy isn't the next Deion, but I think he's going to be a really solid starting corner in the NFL.

I have personal preferences, but IMO, you could make a good argument for any of that tier of Terrell/Fulton/Gladney/Diggs/Igbinoghene/Johsnon as being the 3rd best corner. Which is why I would trade down at 17 rather than pick one of them there, even if we take a bath on the trade value chart.

I feel like Bobby simultaneously wants to (1) lower our expectations (fair) (2) piss people off (****) and most of all (3) get to be smug if these players people aren’t fans of end up being good (he’s constantly talking up these late round small school UDFA nobodies all year just for access to their agents).

Also, as a Cowboys media personality, there's not much value/upside in being the 83rd person to mock Chaisson to us.

Absent the first two picks, I would be okay with the draft. A trade back changes my entire perspective of the draft.

I think there are a ton of really good scenarios for the Cowboys in this draft. Staying put and drafting Henderson, Kinlaw, Chaisson, or Jeudy could all lead to really solid drafts. Same with trading back and adding an extra really solid player in the top-75.

But it's hard to drum up a scenario where taking a non-Henderson CB at #17 leads to an inspiring draft class. They have to figure out a way to trade out if the board gets wiped.

I think we can all agree that if the board gets wiped, then there's a chance that either a top QB or top OT will likely fall because of it, thus improving our chances for a trade down.

And if we can't get decent trade down value,   I am fine with drafting a QB,  assuming we haven't re-signed Dak,  or drafting the remaining top 4 OT,   figuring out it he would play RT, and move La'el back to LG,  or having the rookie tackle play guard for a couple years.   Heck we could run some 6 Oline formations.

Even if we don't have a great trade down option, honestly, if the alternative is taking one of those corners.

You try to get more obviously, but if the best you can do is something like #34 & #75 (775 points) for #17 (950 points), I would do that over taking one of those corners at #17.

I wouldn't be thrilled with that return, but I understand your point.

Of course not. I hope we can have a bidding war for an OT or QB. I hope we could land another top-50 pick or a future 1st rounder.

I just mean that... you can find a trade partner at any point in the draft if you really want one. So it's really hard for me to fathom taking one of the CBs not named Henderson at #17.

I hear you, I hear you. And I agree; I'd rather get compensation than force a lower value pick at 17.
