As long as said team does claim him on waivers, signs him afterwards, very smart IMO.   If they claim him on waivers, they are basically taking on the rest of the year's contract.   They could sign Osemele on a rest-of-season min wage deal, with an option for 2020 that's less than 11.2M.

The beauty for Osemele is that he could continue with his grievance with the Jets, and then recoup the lost $ for 2020, as well, if the Jets released him in breach of the CBA of a release while injured (I'll defer to the legal guys, but that's what I understood from past convos on this type of situation).

Osmele shouldnt go through waivers though right?

Right as a 4+-year service time guy....good call there.

They can't really take on the old contract, then.   Either way, they can probably offer Osemele a 2-year deal and tell him to go and get the rest of his 2019-20 $ from a grievance from NYJ.  Take our money now, get the rest from an arbitrator.

Every post throwing shade to Osemele comes from a Jets fan.   Cognitive dissonance, anyone.....

I just throw people on the ignore list for hot takes that get anywhere close to 'players are cattle'

You can pay a guy 100 million a year and take him with a preexisting injury that he says he can play through.

It can get worse tomorrow and too bad for taking a guy with an injury.

The point where he loses rights to his own body is NEVER!
