Next you'll tell me that fresh air won't help

No fresh air is good, but in this instance we're talking about someone who is outside with COVID-19, so the small benefit of fresh air is vastly outweighed by the risk of transmission to someone else.

Yes but wouldn't a smaller viral load be easier to fight off?

The virus inside your lungs is multiplying exponentially so the addition or subtraction of a few viruses from breathing isn't going to make a meaningful difference in the grand scheme of things.

To add to rams, what you’re expelling is irrelevant (to you).  A decrease viral load is going to come from antibodies/your immune system or medical intervention.

You can’t “cough the virus out” or something like that.

Absolutely not. The point was NK saying “don’t blame the WHO for your incompetence” being the pretty damn smug. I’m always up for a little political shade throwing.

Isn't NK up for investigating the WHO also?

Gonna keep piggybacking I guess. 😂

Fresh air, sunlight, etc is wonderful, but if you’re in a crowded environment (even a moderately crowded one) and someone is sneezing/coughing/spitting without a mask, that’s not necessarily “fresh air” you’re breathing in.

And yes, risk/reward and rams said.

The AMOUNT of coronavirus you get infected with decides how severe the illness is, SAGE scientist warns

People exposed to a higher dose of coronavirus are more likely to fall critically ill, a scientist part of Number 10's SAGE panel has warned.

Professor Lucy Yardley, from the University of Bristol, sounded the alarm today, saying evidence shows 'viral load' plays a big role in how sick someone will become.

She said it explains why so many healthcare workers - who come into face-to-face contact with gravely ill patients - have fallen victim and died from the disease and should be factored into ministers' lockdown exit strategy.

Are they any worse than the people that want the government to do whatever they want to "save lives" without thinking about the cost?

Governmental/large scale decisions are almost universally going to have a portion of people who they impact negatively with their decision, on both sides of the aisle.  Ideally they’re making decisions to the greatest amount of good for the most people when a perfect solution doesn’t exist.

A person saying “I’m not wearing a mask because (insert whatever nonsense)” isn’t doing anything other then being a selfish prick (imo).  Masks aren’t terribly expensive, aren’t painful, and are worn for the greater good of literally everyone.  There is literally no reason not to wear one.

So to answer your question directly, yes, they are unequivocally worse.

Masks aren’t worn so you aren’t breathing in pathogens, unless you’re rocking an N95 or something (at least as far as a high degree of filtration).  You wear face covering so you’re not sneezing, coughing, wheezing, spitting (when you talk), etc and putting those droplets in the air.

If everyone is wearing them, you’re reducing the likelihood on both ends.

That graphic tells only part of the story:

And importantly:

No one is asking you to wear a mask forever

No one is asking you to wear a mask in your own home, when you are by yourself, or with people you are otherwise having social contact with

Its a temporary, relatively simple and low cost measure to take to protect people you come in contact with in public who don't know you and don't want to get sick with your germs during a global pandemic.  Seems pretty reasonable tbh

And by doing so allows us to safely get back to the things we all miss.

Being the stubborn arse who can’t wrap a mask around his head is only slowing progress down for everyone.  They’re the kid that can shut up in class and costs everyone else recess time.

Wait, why are we dismissing this strategy out of hand?  Has anyone tried hyperventilating for a few hours or days to see if they can cough out the virus?

You were talking about someone that wanted to watch fireworks outside.

Weather every regulation puts into place is necessary or not it amazes me the amount of people that don't even question them or think you are a horrible person for questioning them.

You are a braver person than me if these shutdowns doubt make you uneasy
