Jay Glazer came out and said Indianapolis(the franchise as a whole, not just Irsay) really did believe Luck would be ready for week 1. But when he showed up and started throwing, his throwing motion was completely off. So they sent him to a specialist to get that fixed. When he got back from that, he started doing the strengthening therapy/practice/whatever, and the pain occurred which wasn't supposed to happen. Or even if he knew that he was lying the entire time (I lean towards the idea that, in January, he probably genuinely thought he'd be ready, but that they knew a couple months ago that he simply wasn't going to play this year).
