patriotsheatyan
Who are the best teams you have seen at each record? Who is the best 0-16 team of all time? The best 1-15 team? Best 2-14 team? Best 3-13 team? And so on.
patriotsheatyan
I consider the 2017 Browns the best 0-16 team I have ever seen. I consider the 2012 Chiefs the best 2-14 team I have ever seen. I consider the 2011 Giants the best 9-7 team I have ever seen.
DerbyRam
I'm no football historian, but the Cowboys 8-8 this season should be a decent shout considering they had the most offensive yards in the league despite the likes of the Chiefs and Ravens knocking teams for six.
Jakuvious
2010 Chargers should be in the discussion for 9-7. 1st in offense, 1st in defense, top 5 in a host of other stats like passing O, passing D, rushing D, etc. Just one of the worst special teams of all-time.
TecmoSuperJoe
2009 Ravens might be the best 9-7 I remember seeing. Their losses were mostly close, and they had some dominating wins. They were actually first in DVOA that year. 1985 Bears probably the best 15-1 team. Only other one that in my opinion that would challenge that would be the 1984 49ers. 0-16 Browns like someone else said were better than the 0-16 Lions. Worst 8-8 team the 2004 St. Louis Rams who actually made the playoffs. Edited May 22, 2020 by PapaShogun
Apparition
The 1981 Patriots went 2-14 but had a Pythagorean W-L record of 6.7-9.3 They lost 6 games by 3 points or less, and 2 others by 6 and 7 points. Their wins were 33-17 over a 9-7 Chiefs team and 38-10 over a 7-9 Oilers team. They made the playoffs the following season.
SalvadorsDeli
I haven't really looked too much into how they measure up with other teams but my guess is the 2009 Ravens are probably up there in terms of best 9-7 teams ever. We were #1 in the league in DVOA that year which I doubt has been done by many other 9 win teams before, with a Pythagorean win record of 11.6-4.4. Lotta close losses and a lot of blowout wins that year. Blew out the Pats at Foxboro in the divisional round to hand Brady and Belichek their first ever playoff loss there without even needing Joe Flacco with a broken back to do anything (legendary statline of 4/14 for 34 yards an INT... lol), then had their season ended by a Colts team that had a chance at going 16-0 if Jim Caldwell hadn't pulled/rested his starters.
lancerman
16-0: 2007 Patriots 15-1: 1985 Bears 14-2: 1989 49’ers 13-3: 1999 Rams 12-4: 1995 Cowboys (Deion did it for me) 11-5: 2018 Patriots once they woke up 10-6: 2007 Giants once they woke up 9-7: 2011 Giants... Eli was the truth that year . . . . . Im not getting that granular. 1-15: 2007 Dolphins. Only because they nearly embarrassed a solid Steelers team 0-16: 2016 Browns. Wanted to pick Lions because I can’t stand the Browns, but they should have won a few games.

No lol they started out 3 and 0 and 4-1 because of their party cake schedule they were definitely exposed disagree
SpacemanSpiff
I thought this year's version of the Titans was probably one of the best 9-7 teams I've ever seen.
SpacemanSpiff
OH! I thought of another one. The Cleveland Browns in 2013 -- the Chudzinski year -- was definitely one of the best 4-12 teams I've seen.
TecmoSuperJoe
For 6-10, the 1999 Denver Broncos are probably my choice. Still had a lot of talent from the 1998 team that won the Super Bowl obviously. The retirement of John Elway, and Terrell Davis getting hurt were two huge blows along with other injuries the team couldn't overcome. Still even at 6-10, they were a very competitive team. Here are their DVOA rankings from that year: Overall: 12th (8.6%/positive is better) Offense: 14th (3.4%/positive is better) Defense: 10th (-6.9%/negative is better) Special Teams: 22nd (-1.6/positive is better) Schedule difficulty rank: 1st To put this further in perspective via Pro Football Outsiders, whereas the Broncos were 12th in overall DVOA , the Colts who finished 1999 13-3 were ranked 17th. The next year the Broncos would bounce back with an 11-5 record. Interestingly enough their defense wasn't as good as when they finished 6-10 the previous year. Trentwannabe
Certainly not the best 9-7 team ever as some have won Super Bowls but I always found this to be interesting. The 2004 Bills were the best statistical team to not make the playoffs. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/extra-points/2010/fo-mailbag-best-dvoa-miss-playoffs

Place was 2/3 empty and half of the people there were ravens fans. A bunch of fin fans were wearing bags on their heads and when they list the ravens fans started asking for them and wore them into the parking lot lol.
