vike daddy
Keenum may have thrown two ill-advised interceptions late in the game that nearly allowed Washington to come back, but for the first three quarters, the Vikings scored at will on the back of Shurmur’s play-calling and creativity. All in all, the Vikings’ offense finished with 406 yards, 5-for-5 in the red zone and 8-for-12 on third downs. http://www.1500espn.com/vikings-2/2017/11/vikings-oc-shurmur-dials-another-gem-vs-washington/
SemperFeist
Earlier this week, Zimmer mentioned that they need to be more efficient in the red zone, moving forward. Mission accomplished in Washington!

vike daddy
In addition to unpacking a suitcase of different personnel groups (*), Shurmur and wide receivers coach Darrell Hazell have trained the team’s receivers to play any spot in the offense — a departure from how the group functioned under former offensive coordinator Norv Turner. That’s helped the Vikings create more high-tempo drives — and it’s made the group more difficult to prepare for as a whole. Zimmer: “You’ve got to do an awful lot of studying, because typically guys like to do certain things out of certain spots. Our guys are out of position in one spot and out of position in another spot and then they do different things out of those areas. Then [opposing defensive coordinators] have to figure out all your man coverage rules and your zone coverage rules. It makes it a lot more complicated and difficult.” http://www.startribune.com/pat-shurmur-s-unpredictable-creative-vikings-offense-is-catching-fire/457309113/ (*) - our five td's vs Washington all had different personnel groups, no two were the same. This has become pretty common across the NFL. I feel that it's becoming easier for younger QBs to produce right away.
y*so*blu
What do you know ... coming off a successful week against Washington, Pat Shurmur does it again vs. the Rams. Granted, they lost their first two starting cornerbacks, but his offense is working for this team in a big way. I take my hat off to him.

vike daddy
If the opponent’s red zone is a blackjack table, the Vikings are on a heater. But they are making their own luck inside the opponent’s 20-yard line, from where they have scored nine touchdowns in nine trips dating to Oct. 29 vs. Cleveland. That includes two TDs in two red-zone trips during Sunday’s 24-7 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Even while winning six of their first eight games, the Vikings entered the bye week as one of the league’s most ineffective red-zone offenses. They are now a top-10 producer near the goal line, per Football Outsiders, just three weeks removed from ranking 27th in touchdown efficiency inside the 20-yard line. Riley Reiff: “I think you have to give Pat Shurmur some credit. Everybody is doing their job. He’s putting together some good play calls and we’re executing right.” http://www.startribune.com/vikings-heating-up-in-the-red-zone/458921983/
vike daddy
With Thursday’s performance, the Vikings moved into fourth place in the NFL in offensive yards per game, only trailing Philadelphia, New England and New Orleans. http://www.1500espn.com/vikings-2/2017/11/latavius-murray-continues-roll-vs-lions/
HitStickAllDay
Is it a given that high profile OCs always take head coaching jobs? It seems like the allure is irresistible for most but if you’re good at being a coordinator why take the headache of a HC job? I’m sure ego plays a large part into it.
