Motivation - Rum and Cigars run this week.

Offensive Strategy
Formations:  3WR/ 2 RB/ 4WR
Scheme:  Pass (50%) vs Run (50%)

Rushing
Position Depth: Kareem Hunt/ James Conner / CEH / Chris Carson

Hunt gets the start this week (50%). Conner will spell him (20%) and handle short yardage plays. CEH and Carson are threats both in the run game and passing game out of the backfield or in the slot. They will each get about 10-15% of the carries with a WR getting some Jet sweeps. Using 21 personnel we hope to grind down the Smugglers DL and LBs to create  big plays later in the game and seal this victory.

Cuba has a thin interior DL so we will run to the inside and set up the pass for Brady with some play action. The versatility of our offensive weapons allows them to line up in multiple spots and give Brady a quick out to move the ball. In Jumbo sets Feiler comes in to be that 6th OL to help open up the big holes for our playmaking RB’s.

Passing
When not handing it off, Brady will be employing a quick passing game that includes our backs on swing and flat routes. We want a short passing game to extend drives and tire out the Cuba defense. Our receiving core of Keenan Allen/WR, Mecole Hardman/WR, Darnell Mooney/WR  and Darren Waller/TE will flood the field with a variety of routes (slants, crossing, and fly/go primarily). We are going to use Hardman and Mooney’s speed to stretch the field and test the thin Smuggler secondary.
In 4 WR formations Shenault gets involved on Jet sweeps and also will line up in the backfield with the RB going out to the Slot. Misdirection will allow out playmakers to keep the chains moving and outscore the Smugglers.

Defensive Strategy
Formation:  4-2-5 Defense / 3-3-5 / 3-2-6

Our main defensive formation will consist of the 4-2-5 (Nickel). In my opinion, this formation is putting our best 11 on the field thus giving our defense the best chance to dismantle their offensive game plan.

Rush Defense
The Smugglers have a balanced offense and a stud in Dalvin Cook so we obviously will prepare to stop the run. Aaron Donald and Bilal Nichols clog the middle and get penetration this week to collapse the pocket on Watson. Kevin Pierre-Louis will be a spy this week on Cook to limit his YAC. Deion Jones will keep an eye on Watson as he is also a threat to run. K.J. Wright comes off the bench if Cuba goes run heavy.

Pass Rush
Chandler Jones and Robert Quinn crash the edges and we will be dialing up blitz packages this week to force Watson to throw quickly and not give his receivers time to develop their routes. So we’ll look to exploit things by keeping the pressure on for the bulk of the game with a safety blitz or the LB spying on Watson putting pressure on him as well. The depth off the bench in Smith, Anderson and Reddick will make sure that Watson has no time and nowhere to run all day. Preston Smith will also pair with Aaron Donald inside in our version of a Nascar package and just let him do what he does best in the 3 tech.

Pass Defense - Scheme:  Cover 1 Man
Julio is the clear WR1 and will draw coverage from Kyle Fuller. Chark is a solid possession receiver and Rookie Van Jefferson is trending upward. Desmond King will keep Alie-Cox locked down this week. We are confident that our secondary is up to the task of preventing this passing game from developing. John Johnson has deep overage as the single high safety and is the last line of defense, specifically against Jefferson.

Coverage Assignments:
·         Julio Jones / Kyle Fuller - CB
·         D.J. Chark / Quinton Dunbar - CB
·        Van Jefferson / Jonathan Jones - CB
·         Mo Alie-Cox / Desmond King II - SS

Intro

After some uneven performances to start the year, we prepare for a matchup with Singapore. The goal here is to leave with a 3-2 record. We expect this SirA led team to build an excellent game plan and we need to counteract with a quality gameplan ourselves.

Offense

Clearly the most talented aspect of this team is the combination of Aaron Donald and Chandler Jones absolutely wrecking game plans. In regard to Aaron Donald he’s effectively matchup proof but we own a quality interior pass rush with two high level pass protectors in Elgton Jenkins and Ryan Jensen. David DeCastro is probably the most well rounded interior offensive lineman we’ve got so we can have Jensen help whichever guard is faced with Donald. Secondly, with some switching at offensive tackle, Trent Brown will man the blind spot for Watson. He’s got one undeniable aspect and that’s his massive size which should give Chandler Jones some trouble when not facing a variety of chips ranging from Alie-Cox, Ian Thomas, or Le’Veon Bell/Jamaal Williams. With Watson having the dual threat ability to escape a pass rush we think our offensive line can produce well enough to satisfy our offensive objectives.

If we can protect Watson, there are some opportunities to get the offense going beginning with DJ Chark. While the combination of Singapore starters including Quinton Dunbar are solid players our receivers are impactful weapons that can make plays on an even target share. Our intention is to target isolation matchups. This is our answer to possible blitzing and zone coverage schemes. Chark will command around 10 targets with Julio absent this week. If Fenton matches with Justin Jefferson in the slot we are looking find that matchup and target it frequently. This season Jefferson has caught 16-20 targets for 344 yards and a TD. The completion percentage is unsustainable but the production suggests he can produce quality numbers on a relatively limuted target share. Chark and our running game should command enough attention that we don’t need to force Jefferson the ball. Marvin Jones should be the third target and between him and Robinson we might take a couple shots on crossing patterns against the Singapore 3rd CB.

Perhaps the most important thing for our offense to flow and remain effective is balancing a run game so Watson is not forced to deal with Aaron Donald and Chandler Jones strictly focusing on rushing the passer. In the early portions of the game, we are using Watson in RPOs and want him to use his legs to showcase an extra dimension in our offense. This should also help Dalvin Cook a little bit more because Singapore has shown a willingness to play the pass with two safeties deep. If they come with this strategy again we are willing to make Cook the focal point of the offense considering the safety pair being stronger pass coverage weapons. Le’Veon Bell shares reps with Cook as the 3rd down back and Williams will spare Cook on early downs when he needs a breather. This reliance on the running game will be our goal to either force one of the talented safeties to enter the box or allow one of our lineman to reach the second level and affect Deion Jones. This means Dalvin Cook can go one on one against Kevin Pierre-Louis on multiple occasions. Pierre-Louis has been strong this season but Cook leads the NFL in rush yards presently and has the skill set that gets us excited he can break some big plays. This is also our answer to attack cover 2 man with Cook in short area targets with hopes we can get Cook matched up with Pierre-Louis again. Moe Alie-Cox hasn’t developed into a full time player at TE but poses a threat in the redzone and in the redzone well add a new wrinkle bunching Jefferson/Chark and throwing Alie-Cox on the other side for basketball opportunities against the smaller Deion Jones. We’ll rotate the reps with Cox and Ian Thomas with some occasional two sets to get both on the field.

Defense

The player we are most concerned about is Kareem Hunt. Brady is elite but he’s relatively matchup proof with good weapons. Keenan Allen is a consistent target machine and Waller is extremely talented as a receiver but allowing Hunt to get going transcends the Singapore offense and gives them a higher ceiling. If Singapore’s script is aimed at feeding anyone other than Hunt we are going to focus on doubling Waller and asking Brady to match our offensive production with Anthony Miller, CEH, Connor, Beasley, & Shenault. Singapore’s is traditionally designed as a RBBC so putting an emphasis on Hunt should not compromise our intentions to cover Darren Waller.

Our plan to cover Keenan Allen is letting Kenny Moore shadow him because despite his status as a number one receiver lines up as a slot primarily. Allen lines up all over in this offense but with Moore not having blitz responsibility we can let him focus on coverage this game. Accounting for Waller will be our pinpoint interest this week because we want multiple forms of double coverage. In the slot, we will use zone coverages with a focus on cover 3. In man coverage, Jimmie Ward gets the first task of covering Waller and we want Tyrann Mathieu to help on this coverage whether actually doubling Waller or roaming in the middle of the field in anticipation for seam, posts, and crossing routes that involve Waller coming across the field to create separation. Of course zero plan is matchup proof but this assures we have covered our basis against him winning in vertical targets or being isolated if he’s asked to lineup on the boundary.

Regardless of our intent to focus on Hunt, Edwards-Helaire has shown us that he’s elusive in the open field and has good vision to get 4-5 yards consistently. Our matchup in the trenches is highly anticipated with Wyatt Teller playing at an all pro level and Bozeman/McCoy starting off the year playing at an above average level. Our greatest response is using Fletcher Cox against Teller and letting the sample of quality performance matchup with the yearly consistency on our all pro talent. He’s been nursing an injury recently so we won’t overload his snaps with Cameron Jordan and Arik Armstead sharing some interior rush opportunities and helping defend the run. Cox has primarily been an asset against the pass so we want him matched with Bozeman or McCoy on stunts that allow the other interior to get after Brady. This offensive line is solid but our pass rush brings a quality rotation of guys and different skill sets to assure our guys can all get a fair share to battle with a strong pass rush. The goal is giving a consistent four man front so we’ll add some pass rush friendly packages that include Hughes/Armstead/Jordan/Judon on field together.

Finally, the matchup against Brady is straight forward. We are not going to reinvent the wheel with coverage disguises to confuse him. The name of the game is relatively simple; pressure him with four and cover in the backend. He’s not going to hurt us running the ball and we know how well his preference to get the ball out quickly works with Allen and Waller’s ability for YAC.

Went back and forth on this one all day yesterday and decided to sleep on it. Singapore in a very close one (all of these games have been close imo except that OKC handout). The quick passing game to guys with big speed and Waller is going to get active is enough to push Singapore over the top in a game I think goes to OT.

I was going back and forth on this one. I like Frogs game plan to attack the weapons of Sing Sing, but I don't know if they have the personnel. Jimmie Ward, if he is the main cover guy for Waller seems like a horrible matchup 1 on 1. Waller would box him out all game. Then moving Moore to follow Allen is a good idea, but then that leaves Ugo Amadi (who I thought was a safety??) on a guy like Mecole Hardman and that's an issue on it's own. I think the scheme is good, but in the end Brady dinks and dunks enough and eventually hits one of those speed guys for a dagger.

Also, I'd like to say I think Chark is much more than just a 'solid possession WR'. Dude is 6'4 with 4.3 wheels. He's just stuck in Jacksonville.
