Saw them live like half a dozen times in my late teens/early 20s because they opened virtually every all-ages metal show in New England.

It was unpleasant.

Also, the vocalist is a giant idiot.

Guessing this is in regards to his political views? Which obviously we can't delve into. But it stands in contrast to the majority of the metal bands world view and yours (as I've ascertained from your posts over the years)

Oh, believe me, most metal band members are no less dumb. He's just a whole lot more vocal about it.

It's interesting some of the political debates Phil gets into on Twitter with Mark Morton. Phil being Libertarian and Mark leans left on most things. But they keep it cordial and polite.

Dude The Haunted are the ****.

I'm not judging anyone for liking them, but At the Gates with Svensson made some incredibly innovative music, and actually created the whole genre of "melodic death metal". The Haunted more or less just play 'Seasons in the Abyss' riffs. There's no comparison.

I mean, COME ON!

Simply put, if you're familiar with SiriusXM, I listen to the **** out of Octane/Turbo and never touch Liquid Metal. That's the line.

I dabble with Liquid Metal here and there because they'll play some artists that Octane doesn't, like Type O Negative. I spend alot of time on Hair Nation and Ozzy's Boneyard as well 🤘

Late to the party, but my approach to deep-deepish gurgling vocals has always been that (beside their fitness to the music that Star already pointed out) in death-and-adjacent metals they shouldn't be considered as vocals per se, but rather as a rythm instrument. Like a second rythm guitar or such. They add flavor and texture to the music, but they aren't there to convey any meaning and will fail bands that try to do that through them (sorry Assück). Though reading Nile's liner notes for their lyrics was fun back in the day when I was still buying physical media...

Anyway, too many words, not enough music...

My life would have felt that much emptier had I not read the lyrics to "Masturbating the War God"
