True. But how many games prior to this season did we lose because of his prevent defense? Also i feel like he didn't prioritize linebacker and great defenses need a great linebacker.

Probably not as many as he kept us in and helped us win. It was infuriating when it happened though yes.

Jim had a lot of shortcomings, but he did a solid job here. We can do better but it’s not a guarantee. If we get someone equally good at preparing and getting guys ready as Jim but can help develop players and/or is better at in game adjustments we will be in a good spot.

But it’s not an easy thing. We have BG at the end of his career, Cox, maybe Hargrave and Slay as the only real players locked in and all of them might be gone or hit a wall soon. So building a defense will be a lot of work, especially since we have to add fixing the offense on top of it. He covered up Howie’s mistakes better than most. How many damn off the street DBs have we relied on for years?

Now imagine if we kept Sidney jones or rashly Douglas and we got a DC that could actually develop talent and not leave their CBs out high and dry. While Jim’s defenses were very vanilla and mostly got the job done, he never really developed anyone. It was so frustrating watching those two on their new teams flourish because gym couldn’t develop talent for poo

Jones and Douglas both sucked this year though with their new teams.

He wasn’t bad but god damn how many times we knew the main weapon of the opposing team was gonna go off? Happened every week.

Good defensive coaches take out your best weapon and let the other team beat you another way. Schwartz didn’t do that and that was his huge weakness.

he did it plenty of times with top running backs. But yeah #4 tier corners vs most top WRs is rarely gonna work.

Our FO’s incompetency driving him into retirement certainly not a good sign though...

Yeah like what DC will want to come if he does his homework. Howie did like 3/4 on paper bigger moves for the D, and one of them was taking a broken rookie CB.
