The Vikings bane since I have been a fan... it has spanned coaches and eras -- playing to the opponent's level. 

If your team is 0-10, the Vikings will play like a 0-10 team too. If you're 10-0, the Vikings will play like a 5-5 team.

It's like a disease that passes from generation to generation.
