Do it.  Come on, McCarthy, I won't question you for the next ten years if you just come out and fire or publicly shame Capers.

“We have some outstanding individual performances going on over seven games, but our unit statistics and production performance is not what it can be.”

It's a stretch at best to call that an indictment of the scheme or Capers. If anything, it's an indictment of the position coaches for not having their units prepared or playing well. It's also an accurate account of how the defense has played. They've had good individual performances, but units as a whole have been bad. The defense needs its best players to start making plays consistently, and for back-ups/role players/rookies to not be terrible.

Maybe it shows a scheme that is too overall talent dependent when you can have multiple players at different levels with strong performances and it's not translating to unit or overall defensive strength.

Doesn't mean much if MM still allows Capers to have a job.

Yes...because the Packers are clearly the type of organization that fires coordinators midseason.  When was the last time New England did that?  Pittsburgh?  Atlanta?

Literally every offseason since the SB you can make a case he should be fired.

Holy smokes stop being intentionally obtuse.

The only argument for a lack of talent right now is what our pass rush looks like.  Anybody who mocks anything but a pass rusher to us in the first round should lose every like they've ever received on this site.

Yep. No pass rush will sink any defense and GB's pass rush stinks

Still hope they move on from Capers because this team has pretty much been spinning its wheels for the past 4-5 yrs now. You rarely see teams keep the same HC and coordinators for as long as GB has without things starting to flame out one way or another

So do I. TT keeps throwing early draft talent at that defense and it never amounts to much. What key players are missing from the defense tonight? This defense isn't any good and hasn't been any good for quite some time. Sometimes statistically they are a good defense but then we get to the playoffs and it gets scorched. Statistically this defense was excellent in 2009 and Kurt Warner had an absolute field day against it. In 2012 it was pretty decent and we got throttled by the 49ers. This defense can't stop any above average QBs. I keep saying it. Every time we play a decent offense or QB we pretty much give up 30-40 points like its clockwork. I'm tired of all the apologists. We are going nowhere with Dom Capers at DC. Our defense year after is atrocious at situational football. That is what truly matters. Every team is going to give up a ton of yards every now and then to a good team. But the thing is. Can your defense hold up at the end of the 1st and 2nd half against the 2 minute and 4 minute drill and can you get stops in the red zone. This defense has been comically bad at stopping teams in both of these situations. You will never win a championship with a defense that can't get stops in the red zone or make a stop at the end of halves. I don't know that New England really had a more talented defensive roster last year than us but they were #1 in points allowed and were very good in the red zone.
