There are going to be a lot of FA running backs this year I could see Miles pricing himself out and Howie taking better value

Yeah but this team is playing really well, I think Howie will want to preserve as much of it and the core as possible, try not to rock the boat too much.

What do we think he's going to ask for and what do we think he is realistically worth? I'd say you offer him a contract similar to what Fournette got last year. Like you said, there's going to be a lot of running backs available via free agency this year and the demand for the position just isn't there - I can see him asking for a lot but I'd have to think he's ultimately going to get a market average deal.

I thought he would be an easy player to make a deal with but he is having a top 5 running back season right now. I mean he would be dumb not to ask for top 5 money right?

1 Tyree Wilson DE (I honestly haven't watched him, but sounds like he could be similar to 2015 Ziggy Ansah from reading about him, if he hits his ceiling. Sounds like he'd be another Clowney 6 or 7 sacks, but great run D type if he doesn't completely hit that ceiling.)
1 Devon Witherspoon CB (I wont stop mocking him to us at this spot)
2 Cooper Beebe/Layden Robinson RG or Mazi Smith/Jer'Zhan Newton/Siaki Ika DT (The RG's or Newton would be my pick)
3 Zach Charbonnet/Israel Abanikanda/Blake Corum RB or Karl Brooks DT (Charbonnet <3)
7 SirVocea Dennis LB (probably a 4th rounder, but w/e)
7 Cam Rising QB (Probably a 4/5 rounder. Who cares.)

UDFA
Adam Korsak P (My #2 Punter prospect)
Bryce Barringer P (My #1 Punter prospect)
Will Mallory TE (Probably a 5th rounder, but shush)

FA
Matt Ioaniddis DT (This signing makes too much sense)
James Robinson RB (He should be better next year, imo, and come pretty cheap)

If that is the description of Tyree Wilson why would you waste a top 10 pick on that?

You don't think 2015 Ziggy Ansah is worth a top 10 pick? 2nd team All-pro, but that's not worth a top 10 pick? Okey dokey.

A guy with two good seasons that washed out of the league pretty quickly?

Nah not really.

I didn't compare their health, only their ceiling, hence the specific year. Your reading comprehension is about as good as Dallas' super bowl hopes. Get it together man.

The guy did miss the last few games of the year hurting his foot. You could very well be also comparing health.

I like a trade down in the 1st.

If the Saints land in the 6th spot, that is worth the 13th in the 1st and 2nd.
Jacksonville has Engram on a one year deal.
I could see them moving up for Mayer.

If the Saints stay at the 9th spot, that equates to the 17th in each round.
It is hard to say which team will be there at this point.

The Eagles need to clean up the DT mess.
It is a patchwork, hodge-podge and isn't sustainable.
Jalen Carter looks to be gone at six, much less nine.
Siaki Ika is projected all over the place.
He would be a nice addition.
Mazi Smith may be an option as I am looking at larger DT's because Hargrave, Williams and Tuipulotu have the other spot.
Cox, Suh and Joseph (101 years old) can all go unless one wants to sign for the veteran minimum.
The Eagles can't carry seven DT's and need some youth.

I think they need to draft two CB's high, ala 2002.
They had Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor and took Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown.
Insomuch as Slay (31) is signed, Bradberry (29) has been better and is not and merits a big payday.
If the Eagles trade down Kelee Ringo may be out of reach.
Christian Gonzalez's draft position is hard to determine at this point.
Clark Phillips is small, but highly productive.

Sweat and Reddick have been good, but there isn't much depth for the future.
I think they could replace Graham with an edge setting, traditional left DE later in the draft.
A guy named Yaya Diaby from Louisville caught my eye.
He reminds me of Deatrich Wise coming out.
He is not a big sack guy, but could anchor against the run and set the edge.
He would require a year of improving his lower body strength.
Ultimately, I think he could be that guy you move inside on long passing downs.

The top of the draft is too uncertain at the moment.
I see a lot of teams moving up and down in the coming weeks.
I'll mock up then.
Until then it looks something like this:  1-CB, 1-DT, 2-CB, 2-RB, 3-DE, 7-?, 7-?

Good post. I definitely agree with your general premise of going defense heavy this draft. The offense is generally set, especially at the big positions, for the foreseeable future. Should be able to bring a few of the defensive pieces back in FA as well. Or even bring in some new faces to avoid the stale-ness factor.

Looking like the Saints pick will be right around 11-13 when it's all said and done. Hopefully TB gets their act together for 2 of the next 3 games.

Demoralizing win from them

hope they stick there, would still be in position to move up too if one that’s f the QB needy teams misses out and just wants picks. Like if Carter somehow lasted to 6 I’d move up for him.

Right now it’s looking DB or one of that next batch of edge guys.

Knowing Howie,  he will kick the can down the road yet again for a 2024 1st and we can get all excited for 3/4 of a season thinking top 5/10 only to be disappointed yet again.

Still possible to get top 10 if we win and Panthers beat them week 18? Or is the SOS without a LV/Cleveland win going to knock us out as well?

Yeah they’ll be top 10 if they lose out, some of those 4-10 teams have higher SOS so if they can string together two wins as the saint lose out we can really climb.

Luckily there isn’t a lot of crossover that matters, so wins won’t be negated. Panthers/Saints to end the season is the big one.
