I think the only teams that can realistically max him out are the Pistons/Pacers. The Pistons seem like a logical landing spot after they just took Duren.

seems like they’re leaning towards not making any max signings right now

they also have about $20 million in dead cap coming off next offseason if they want to keep a max slot open

If it was anyone but Kyrie, I would say not a snowball's chance in hell of him opting out and signing for the tMLE.  Lakers have significant cap flexibility next offseason.

Didn't Shams say that he's likely going to opt in and then asked to be traded?

Bridges is definitely a combo F.   The preferred lineup was Ball, Rozier, Hayward (3), Bridges (4) and Plumlee.  When Hayward got hurt they either used Oubre as a 2/3 or finally brought PJ Washington in as the 4 and allowed Bridges to play some 3.

Bouknight spent his year in summer league and Greensboro working as a primary ball handler and initiator.   If they are finding more minutes for him I see him playing that 2, sometime 3 role with Bridges as the primary 4.    Miles and PJ showed they can play together so we'll see

This team still has visions of challenging for the #6 seed and outright Playoff qualifier.  They were only a couple games out from that scenario and were squarely in that position before Hayward's mid-season injury lead to an atrocious February slide.   While moving on from Haywards salary would be nice I think the team also recognizes he's a pretty key lineup piece if the intention is to build a Playoff contender.   He and Rozier are the only two that really qualify as legit veteran presences on what is a very young team and won't stifle young development like Westbrook would.

Seems like it'd be shortsighted to not pursue Bridges or Ayton. The Pistons have a unique opportunity to add a young, borderline All-Star either through an offer sheet or a S&T because of two notoriously cheap owners not valuing their players that highly. The free agent class will be significantly worse next offseason.

And what if the Nets tell Kyrie they won't trade him?

I don't think they want to deal with the headache and then lose him for nothing.

IIf Kyrie Irving opts out, he could be putting himself in a position for a significant salary decrease in the strong scenario that there’s no other maximum offer available. The safer choice would be to opt in, especially since he could avoid free agency in 2023 by extending his current deal at any point during next season. His maximum extension amount is projected at four years, $196.2 million. If traded, he would be limited for six months to a two-year extension worth $78.6 million.

If Irving opts in and is traded during free agency, his 15 percent trade bonus would be worth $5.5 million and would increase his $36.9 salary to $42.4 million. If he opts in and is traded before free agency, that $5.5 million bonus would be distributed evenly to his 2021-22 and 2022-23 salaries. That would raise his salary next season to $39.7 million. To simplify things, teams will have to send out at least $30.4 million to match salaries for Irving if he’s traded before free agency, and $33.9 million if traded during.

The only two teams that can realistically afford to trade for Kyrie are the Knicks and Heat.

Miami could use Lowry and 2 minimums + draft capital to match salary if a deal is done before the 30th.
