Or, I dunno, maybe just build a $2.5B stadium instead of a $5B one. 🤷‍♂️

If I had it I would happily loan them 2.5 billion at 7% for 40 years.  They just don’t want to make those payments.

They expect to get this project approved, clear all legal hurdles, decide on their architect/construction company (they may have already done this), put shovels in the ground, and finish this all in roughly three and a half years?!?  Please.

TN is doing it.  MN did it.  IL won’t and really can’t do it.

Honestly, I believe if Arlington campus was in Lake or McHenry some kind of deal is done by now and shovels would be in ground this year.  Even with no or little state money.

Get it done, makes the most sense on so many levels.

With an ownership group that doesn’t want to pay for a $5B stadium and an existing lease until 2035, and a state that’s literally hundreds of millions of dollars in debt already, this may sit stagnant for a long time if the team insists on building a megaplex stadium on the most premium real estate in the city instead of a really nice normal stadium away from downtown.

Bears need some kind of deal for a new stadium.  Because new public infrastructure will need to be built and a full rate on property taxes on billions would be too much to pay even for them.

A compromise will be reached.   When, who knows?  Or they might leave state.  But that would be nuclear option with another nuclear power.  They really don’t want to lose much a huge a fan base and start over.

Three things are true though in IL. Especially Chicago.  Whatever they say it will cost, it will cost more.   Whatever they project it will bring in, it will bring less.   Whatever tax they propose to pay for it won’t be enough.

You can add a 4th thing to that list:

Whatever tax is implemented to pay for something, will remain forever, even after said thing is fully paid for.

Unfortunately that's not how it works.  Each NFL "Taj Mahal" must be nicer than the last one.  At least the Bears are working hard to put a winning product on the field which is more than can be said for the Sox and they have their hand out too.

One of her biggest concerns is the three-phase plan for $1.5 billion in stadium infrastructure projects. Only the first $325 million is guaranteed — for road improvements on and around DuSable Lake Shore Drive that are needed to open the new stadium.

Two later phases would be delivered only if state and federal funds are available. That money would pay to demolish much of Soldier Field, converting it to parkland. Without more money, however, Chicago could be stuck with two lakefront stadiums. There also might not be enough money to build any of the bars, restaurants and playing fields Bears President Kevin Warren and Mayor Brandon Johnson, who led the cheers at the plan’s unveiling, have tried to sell as a lush addition to the Burnham Plan.

“It is common in Chicago for promises to be broken — whether willfully or through ‘Oops, we’ve run out of money.’ And there are very few details about what happens in Phase 2 and Phase 3 in addition to the fact that we have no guarantees. And we have examples over and over of where these amenities promised to make a project palatable don’t happen.”

Turns out it's really easy to convince people to support someone or something with false promises and imaginary claims. It's all in the details, and if none are being provided, well....

And that, kids, is politics.

Still waiting on infrastructure week and for that health care plan to be released in just two weeks!

I still can’t believe Chicago hasn’t paid 1 dollar down on original loan for Soldier Field renovation and now it has doubled.

Just shaking my head at that.  Then they tell us they are going to use that same tax 2% hotel tax to pay both that and the new loans.  Why not start paying that loan off now then?  Not like the tax has gone away.

Why wait? You still owe that regardless of whether they build a new stadium.

They are going to have to explain that better to me.

Here's my hot take on the whole thing; Caleb Williams will never play in whatever new stadium we end up with

(I think its mostly due to how much red tape their will be, but I could also see Caleb having a red hot like 9 year career and then walking away to do other things)

Lololol

Imagine if George McCaskey accidentally ends up with THREE stadiums.  Like he's so happy they got Caleb he's just signing whatever people put in front of him. Develops Arlington,  builds a new lake front stadium and then realizes his mistake before demoing Soldier Field North.

Gotta go write some McCaskey fan fiction about this, good luck with the rest of the season.
