  1. 1. What should the Packers do about their defensive coordinator?

    • Fire MLF, he hired him
    • Fire Joe Barry immediately and get somebody who will play aggressive defense
    • MLF should lay down the law with Barry to stop playing not to lose, get aggressive
    • Ride it out and see what happens this season then make a decision
    • Joe Barry is great

The progress is undeniable.

What did the defense do well last night? LVN won a great rep and saved one drive, Gary won another and saved the next. Next two drives? Carved up and down the field. Nixon saves the last drive (already in our territory) to win the game. The Chiefs scored on all 4 of their first drives.

Chiefs offense beat the Packers defense. They just didn't beat it as handedly as our offense beat the Chiefs defense.

I'd say what the defense did well, but you already listed some of it.

I suspect all good DCs have players that make plays for them?

  • LVN won a great rep and saved one drive.
  • Gary won another and saved the next.
  • Critical 3 and out in Q4
  • INT on next Q4 drive
  • Nixon saves the last drive to win the game.

Of KC's seven possessions in the game, I count 5 successful results.

Chiefs did a great job taking advantage of the different fronts the Packers showed.  Running in passing looks, and passing and using screens in run looks.  But the Nixon pick was on Mahomes trying to take advantage of a 1 on 1 vs a 5 DL front (which I love).  Dropping 8 on 3rd and long was not good.

My guess is the Packers could have been much more aggressive on defense with a healthier CB group.  And making QBs throw contested passes against them will be interesting.

that's a part of it. but just a part.

and is accounted for in DVOA.

Are we stopping the run? Are we getting off the field on 3rd down?

Nothing has changed. The offense is more successful, giving the D a breather and eating more TOP. The defense has had some clutch 1-1 rush reps to get off the field in key moments. We're still letting teams move the ball at will.
