If LaFleur wouldn’t fire Maurice Drayton mid-season last year, there is ZERO chance Barry gets the axe mid-season.

Barry is here for the entire season in the least.  The head coach may need to be involved more, but that means simply attending and at times leading moments at a time in the defensive meetings.  There are good minds in those meetings beyond Barry, MLF needs to maybe more directly involve opinions of some of the position coaches.  Doing that without embarrassing Barry is key.  It has to change, and it has to get better fast.

Probably true, difference being he might hold a higher opinion of Jerry Gray's ability to lead the defense than he did of assistant ST coach last year.

Joe definitely Barryed the talent on this defense. Time to move on.

True, but the counterpoint to that is we aren't last in defense. We had nowhere to go but up with special teams being dead last in the league. There was no downside to making that move and we didn't.

I hope I'm wrong but don't see MLF doing that to one of his coaches in the middle of the season, sans total insubordination.

Or Biasccia, or Barry’s father in law, for that matter. 
 

Joking aside, I hope they gave the OG a real interview and didn’t just Rooney Rule him, but Gray was considered for the job before Joe beat him out.  They might like Barry’s enthusiasm and outgoing personality but his resume was trash coming in. With this amount of talent we should be a very good if not great defense, no excuses.

Doesn’t have to be **** if you’re worried about hurting his feelings. It can just be Fire. Long as it’s a four letter word that starts with F and relays that we want him gone.
