OFFENSIVE GAME PLAN

Ball control. Go on long drives, shorten the game and keep Greenland offense off the field

Our best chance to win is to try and grind out this game. Use our string RB room and O-line to our advantage. Commit to the run and an RPO pass game and protect the football. Running 2 RB’s most of the game with the flexibility of McCaffrey as a runner and receiver can keep Greenland honest. We can come out in a heavy look and if they load up to stop the run we can flex out McCaffrey and force them to adjust. If Murray plays we can also add read option and triple option looks in that as well. If it’s Jimmy G obviously that goes away…..or does it!

Andrews and McCaffrey will be the focal point of an RPO based pass game that will be used in opponent honest. We have two consistent and sure handed vet WR’s that can keep those chains moving as well.

DEFENSIVE GAME PLAN

Attacking 4-3/Cover 2

To compliment our ball control offense, we want a high pressure defense to force Greenland into mistakes and not allow them to go on long drives. We want to attack their offensive line, specifically the right side (Tua’s  blindside which is protected by Cam Robinson) by having extra LB’s in the field and generally attacking downhill we think that’ll force Greenland to move away from Saquon and the run game. If they don’t then this will be a very short and low scoring game that is to our advantage. We want to try and keep the WR’s in front of our CB’s. We don’t think we are going to shut them down but by keeping the pressure on and sitting back in zone we are going to encourage the shorter passing game. With a pair of ball hawks at CB we think we can grab a turnover or 2 that can flip the momentum of the game.

Motivation

Win and pray we make the playoffs

Offensive Formations: 4WR/1RB (40 %), 3WR/1TE/1RB (40%), 2WR/2TE/1RB (10%), 1WR/2TE/2RB (10%)

Offensive Tempo: very slow and methodical offense.  We want to snap the ball late in the clock and control the time of possession through our offense.

Designed Playcall Distribution: 40% run, 40% pass, 20% playaction

TLDR: spread out Raleigh with plenty of trips and bunch formations then run the stretch zone to the outside and attack the edges of Raleigh where we feel they can be exposed.  Get Watson involved with end arounds and quick screens and some deep shots (especially targeting him in the redzone).  Push the ball to the middle of the field with slants and crossing routes to Godwin and take deeper shots with post and dig routes to Diggs and Lamb.  The hot route when in man is going to be the back shoulder throws to the outside (see below).  Throw in timely RB and WR screens.

Running game: Our running game this week will rely heavily on outside stretch zone runs as we want to attack the Raleigh edge guys and get Barkley to use his speed and get downhill more.

When we do run up the middle we will do so using the slow mesh RPO and even some wildcat with Barkley manning QB.  To help attack Raleigh's edges we want to use Watson on a number of end arounds and touch passes as well as use him as a decoy on plays to get the backers moving away from the play at the snap.

Passing game:  We will spread out Raleigh a lot using a heavy amount of 4WR formations along with 3 WR sets.  We will be using trips and bunchs a lot to help throw off the defensive coverage and give Tua one or two routes per play that are more open due to the delayed reaction from the Raleigh CB's in deciphering the routes at the line of scrimmage.

We want Godwin to build an early report with Tua using slants and other routes across the middle, something Godwin shines at doing.

We will be using Watson for the quick WR screens and even using his speed to take a couple shots deep.  Diggs and Lamb will be the big targets down the field with a good dose of back shoulder throws, post, and dig routes.  We want the hot route to be the back shoulder throw.

We will be using our RB's as the check down option and on swing passes this will help to get Tua comfortable early as well and then we can fake those throws and take shots deep later in the game.

First series of the game: we want to establish Tua and the pass.

Defense Base Formation: 4-3

Pass Defense: This week we want to make Raleigh's QB very uncomfortable in the pocket with plenty of zone blitzes.  We want to use our speed and blitz, not only to sack the QB but to also send a physical message to Raleigh that we are the real deal and to get the crowd into the game by repeatedly hitting him.  As we said, we want to prevent the QB from being able to step up/into his throws so we will come with plenty of A gap and inside blitzes this week.  As for the coverage, we want to run a plethora of coverages from man, to zone, to our hybrid, but regardless of what it is we will give help over the top to prevent the big plays.

Run Defense:  we want to shut the run game down early with a good amount of run blitzes to the side opposite of his alignment (called out at the line of scrimmage).  We want to get up field with the blitzing and with using stunts on the d line.  Gap pressure and responsibility will be key for us this week.   We want to shoot the gaps off the snap and use our speed and athleticism to generate tackles for loss and get Raleigh behind the chains.

Defensive rotation and formations notes:  we have DT, edge, LB, and DB depth to rotate in and keep everyone well rested.  As for formations, even though our base and dominant formation will be 4-3, we do want to sprinkle in some 3-4, 4-4, 4-3, and nickel when warranted.

The gameplan was the right idea for Raleigh. And Jimmy G playing this well actually gives them a chance. I just still think with only two healthy corners they don’t have the horses to keep up with that Greenland passing attack and Greenland ends up the victor.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. Greenland wants it more, and although I think the run-focused gameplan works pretty well for Raleigh, Greenland is hitting their stride right when they need to for a final playoff push. Nobody wants to play this team right now.
