I do think the superstar problem has issues rooted with baseball itself, exasperated by our current culture where everything is about what’s happening in the immediate term. If MLB had marketed Mike Trout a ton, for example, there would have been a bunch of people who tuned in to a game to watch him and him alone. But then he’s only up to bat once every like 45 minutes. And he got out 3 times and walked the other. And they’re like “this dude is the best player in baseball??!” Perhaps they give him a few more chances, but it’s very possible he has perfectly normal baseball games during those games as well I think you could make the argument that in a lot of ways, our instant gratification culture coupled with the rise in popularity of TV has shown a steady decline, with the steroid era being the outlier. Think about all of those Bonds/McGwire/Sosa at bats that were cut out and shown in live time during famous "chases". It was "must see TV".

The hard part about it is that Day coached and schemed essentially a perfect game up until the last 35 seconds. He was missing his top 2 WR, his starting TE, starting RG, and his starting and backup RB's. They were decimated and still almost pulled it off. If they hit a 10-15 yard pass and Ruggles goes from 30-40 yards instead, they probably win that game. Losing Harrison was the difference, no question about it.

Ron Rivera has botched so many things this year (and his entire Washington Coaching tenure) that if we had anything that resembled a functioning leadership at the top, he would have been fired after his remarks. He has been a walking/talking, by the book, definition of hypocrisy. He started his tenure preaching accountability. If the players make mistakes he will hold them accountable. Cool, no issues. If his staff or he himself make mistakes, they will be held accountable. There have been ZERO instances of personal accountability by him or his staff. It is a literal joke that he is currently employed. He and Carson Wentz should have been shown the door immediately following the Browns game.
