Well at least 2023’s tragedies have revealed optimism toward humanity. Loved Hillis as a player. Not surprising that he’d try to save this kid. I hope he continues to improve.

Hillis had multiple kids stuck in a riptide, and maybe some other people were there too because it was four people he helped rescue. non-update
Calamity_Cometh
Oof, a riptide. Legit, that is one of my worst nightmares. Get well, big guy.
ronjon1990
Ugh, horrible. Riptides are no joke. Spent quite a few years as a lifeguard and on swim teams and dealt with a couple. They don't care how strong a swimmer you are, it's basically luck of the draw. Glad he's improving and hopefully makes a full recovery.

I was caught in a riptide as a kid, stayed out to surf when everybody else went inside and could not get out of it no matter how much I swam sideways. Right when i about gave up from exhaustion, a lifeguard pulled up right next to me and said “Looked like you needed some help”. He tanked right through it and pulled me to shore. I will forever be grateful for that.

I'm not a great swimmer really at all, and that's fine with me. Indoor pools are my comfort zone.
