Ghostnote Posted January 30, 2023 Author Share Posted January 30, 2023 From a credible source in Washington, the Commanders and Major Tuddy are going to lay the smackdown to Daron Payne with the franchise tag. Even though Payne will get the franchise tag, he is not off the market, and the Commanders would look for first round compensation for the young DT. Daron Payne had a career year for an interior defensive lineman with 64 total tackles and 11.5 sacks. Ryans is likely to mold his defense like the one he had in San Francisco so it's important to watch what happens at 2 overall to determine if they are going to keep Davis Mills and build that defense with a guy like Jalen Carter or do a complete do over with the QB position. One noteable - injured Tennessee QB Hendan Hooker is in Mobile working out with the team, but he is not participating in any drills. He has said he wants to feel a part of the experience regardless of his injury that will likely sideline him for the 2023 NFL season. What this does is shows Hooker's character and ability to be a leader. One of the older prospects, 25, Hooker is also one of the more polished prospects. He was likely a Day 2 pick when healthy, but because of the ACL tear, he might be a late day 2 early day 3 pick. Failing to meet the teams lofty expectations of being in the Superbowl, the team has to look deep to identify weaknesses in their defense that the Bengals were able to exploit. The game was set up for a Bills environment, in Buffalo, snowing etc. Somehow the Bengals used a heavy running and lateral passing attack to spread the Buffalo defense and make them play more side to side than downhill. Buffalo knows the time to strike is now and that iron is hot. Will they focus on the defense in the off season and focus more on their back 7 or continue to improve the front 4 and getting more pressure on the QB. Definitely a team to watch this off season.
