Is it possible to rework that deal so that doesn’t happen?

Things are always possible with the cap but he has an $18.5 million cap hit each of the next 4 years from his extension last offseason tied in part to a $60 million signing bonus. I don't see a way feasible for the Rams to trade him with his extension but stranger things have happened.

They paid him a 60 million dollar signing bonus, so 48 million right off the top is locked in to escalate against the cap.

Yeah he's either playing out the next two years or he's retiring and paying money back which isn't likely to happen. Stafford is the Rams QB more than likely for the next two years. Which coincides with the out in AD99's deal as well. The common thought is the trade away some guys like Ramsey and cut/trade Robinson and Floyd clear up cap space for 2024 add in a couple picks along with our first pick in the 1st round since Goff and retool for another push in '24 then all bets are off for McVay and the rest.

I think they're just looking for a sucker. Stafford wants to retire but also is locked into generational wealth for those last two years on that contract. The Rams are afraid he'll get injured with anything and nurse it as long as possible (because he's truly likely in chronic pain already and just grinding to the finish line on that contract). They're wise to trade him for literally anything and any team to trade for him and that contract are as foolish as can be. They should have to trade assets with him to move him.
