Need to see the guaranteed $ and full details - 5M guaranteed means it might just be 2/5M, and the rest in incentives. At 2/5-6M, it's totally fine. Stidham's played better in limited action than Rypien has, and if it's roughly the same, he offers a better match if we actually need to play 2-3 games in his 2 years than Rypien IMO (Rypien's physical limitations really prevents any upside). If it's 2/5-6M, then it's really semantics. Vet backups with any type of legit NFL experience, that's the floor rate. You look at 2 years 10 million and it's kinda pricey for 2 starts. Granted one of those starts he had his best game of the season and also had a better game than any of Derek Carrs. Put up 30+ points against the niners. I think there's a decent amount of upside with Stidham especially when Payton and Webb gets him. He may push rush. Wilson needed someone behind him who could outperform him if he struggles. Rypien has never and will never be a viable starting QB. Stidham has that potential. Not only will Stidham be one of the best backup QBs in the NFL, but this is a message to Wilson that his job isn’t a guarantee if he doesn’t perform.
