O’Connell has lost all benefit of the doubt when it comes to discussing player injuries after McCarthy’s “routine soreness”.

To be fair, JJ may not have thought it was a big deal, and Coach may have just been channeling that.

When I tore my meniscus, it took me weeks to get my knee examined because it seemed like just a nagging soreness with occasional sharp pain (primarily while running). My young and invincible self was surprised that it turned out to be a legit injury.

Initial word on Wednesday was that wide receiver Jordan Addison avoided a serious injury when he left practice early, but further evaluation of his ankle was scheduled to confirm that feeling.

That evaluation came back with the same result. Head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters on Thursday that Addison should be back on the field soon:

“I don’t see him missing any extended time.”

One of the few things that went wrong for the Vikings on Sunday was the ankle injury that forced wide receiver Jordan Addison out of the game in the third quarter.

Addison left the 28-6 win over the Giants and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the afternoon. Addison dealt with a high-left ankle sprain this summer, but said he felt 100 percent this week and this isn’t the same injury.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell said after the game that Addison hurt his right ankle this time and he didn’t have much else to say about his outlook for Week Two.

Addison had three catches for 35 yards before leaving the game.

O'Connell said Monday Addison was experiencing "pretty significant soreness" and getting treatment at the facility.

O'Connell: "We'll kind of see how it goes he's responded in the past pretty quickly with a similar injury. So we'll just see. Still hopeful that Jordan will have a chance this week, but we'll be smart with him, knowing it's a long season and how important he is to our offense."

New York Giants linebacker Darius Muasau is expected to be fined for an illegal hip-drop tackle that injured Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison in Week 1.

CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reported on September 13 that the NFL has looked at two plays involving the tackle and ruled that defenders are “subject to fines” that will be announced on Saturday afternoon, including Muasau’s tackle of Addison.

Addison was ruled out for the Vikings’ Week 2 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers after his ankle was injured in Week 1.

Several medical experts have pointed to Muasau’s tackle as the culprit of Addison’s injury that will force him to miss at least one week.
