We have to at least discuss this, right?

What if Poles is set to move on from Fields, but likes Maye more than Williams? Everyone seems to agree that Williams can play, but if he wasn’t in this draft we’d all be fawning over Maye just as much. He’s a truly elite QB prospect too.

If Poles truly does like Maye over Caleb then it is the perfect situation if you can leverage Washington to jump up a spot for a haul and still get the QB you want...that said I don't see it...earlier in the year maybe but the more I watch Caleb the more the talent is just different...we are are going QB let's not worry about getting more draft picks or anything...just get the most talent kid then work out how to get as much talent around him as possible.

I agree. i think during the season Maye had his "he could be the guy" hype while CW had his "maybe he isn't the guy" critics. we got a great haul last year in our trade and got the literal best case scenario with getting this pick. While we could get another haul, there's no reason to look the gift horse in the mouth. take the QB and be thrilled with your gift.

Raiders hired Getsy.  Probably means they won’t be trading for Fields.

Trade the 1stOverall to the Raiders..

Bears sign/tag Johnson, sign a C and a G, then draft a WR1.  This is the minimum to go into next season.

Use the draft/free agency to upgrade other areas.  I think we will make the playoff if Waldron is a good play caller.

Who is everyone's "draft guy?" i think its good to get different scouting reports and ideas from people.

The main guy I listen/read is Dane Brugler (The Athletic), which gives the residual Nate Tice who gives decent analysis. Also Josh Norris (Underdog Fantasy) normally has pretty good stuff and I think had the highest mock draft score in 2 of the last 3 years or something like that. He did the Shane Waldron video that got posted after the hire.

Of all the no way in hades trade scenarios I have seen online this one is my current winner.

From Cowboys forum Mad hatter mock offseason:

Trade:

  • Dak Prescott to Chicago Bears for Justin Fields, 1.1, 1.9 and 2025 2nd (via CAR) new cap space approximately $21m.

I'd take Williams but if they want Maye I could understand completely and still be pretty happy. I'd like to try a trade down to 2 to snag something but who knows if they bite. If you want a guy who can stay in the pocket and be surgical once he is developed then I think Maye actually is ahead of Williams in that regard. His deep ball is pretty, really hits them at a high rate too. I think he can really make it easy to build a timing based system around him too.

Damn good athlete (I keep seeing a bigger Alex Smith physically, which is a compliment), really good arm (no Stafford but few are), hits everywhere so he isn't just a screen specialist, and seems to be better on timing than Williams is right now. For a lot of OCs that sounds like the better prospect I'd bet.

option 2 looks great , but why would  Chi even consider trading 1.1 , 1.9, and Fields for Dak?

Detroit got two firsts and a young former first round QB with playoff experience for a 30+ yr old Stafford who was good but never great. Daks coming off a MVP-caliber season and Fields is struggling.  If they don’t believe in Drake and don’t want the drama of Caleb, they may see this as an opportunity to instantly compete in the NFCN

Bleacher Report and PFN both comp Maye to Justin Herbert. He’s not a typical QB2 in the draft. In the past 10 drafts I venture he’d be QB1 in all but the Lawrence and Burrow drafts. He’s a stud prospect in his own right, and it’s worth noting that the places where most have some concerns with Caleb (size, playing within structure, fumbles, hero ball tendencies) virtually all the scouting reports have Maye better at all those things. Maye doesn’t have the (supposedly) overbearingly involved father thing either. If your biggest hang up on Maye is that he went to the same school as Mitch Trubisky then you don't really have any meaningful hang ups about him. It was said before last season and during last season by several credible sources that some NFL teams would have Maye ahead of Williams. It’s not some far fetched premise that one of them may be Chicago.

If Poles does prefer Maye to Williams on the tape and on the white board though, he’s going to have a perception problem. The masses think Williams is unequivocally QB1. They don’t know **** for the most part and don’t do any real evaluation of the players, but that’s the case. Between that and the Cowherd-fueled narratives that Williams doesn’t want to play here (that Williams himself has reportedly shot down in addition to all the non-hot take reporters) a not-so-small faction of the fan base will think Poles took Maye because Williams forced his hand and hold that against Poles even if he just likes Maye better. It’s his *** on the line - he should take the guy he likes most.

I haven’t personally done enough on either of them to know which I like more, but people should really be considering more the possibility that Maye might be Poles’ guy, not because of anything to do with Williams, but Poles thinks Maye will be the better pro.

I listen to a ton of the podcasts and whatnot during my day so I get bits from basically anyone on youtube with an opinion (for both good and bad). Another thing I look for is "Feldman's Freaks" and combine top performers. I'll also look at people PFF is really high on.

Beyond that, my "scouting" method mostly boils down to players available while running draft sims..... I tend to look for names I recognize and/or positions I want to fill.... then once selecting a potential player, doing a "highlight check" (I refuse to draft any skill position player without impressive highlights, because those highlight "splash plays" are what win games), and if they pass that, I'll go deeper into their tape.  I tend to miss more obscure players as a result, but it's massively more time efficient.
