Raleigh

OFFENSE

OFFENSE

Base formation: 3WR, 1 RB, 1 TE

Run/Pass Ratio: 55% run 45% pass

3rd and Long formation and substitutions: Augmented 5 wide with McCaffrey and Andrews acting as WR’s. No Substitutions

Short Yardage Formation and substitutions: 12 personnel, sub out Diontae Johnson for Robert Tonyan for an extra blocker

Redzone Formation and Substitutions: 21 personnel. 50/50 split sub between Johnson and Thomas and replacing with Hunt and Hubbard

Offensive Focus Players: Christian McCaffrey, Mark Andrews, Diontae Johnson

Run Game Philosophy: Heavy outside run with counters to get the defense flowing in one direction and using McCaffrey’s rare stop/start ability to open backside holes. Alternative run game package will be to put Hunt at RB and McCaffrey at WR to lighten the box for Hubbard

Pass Game Philosophy: Quick passes, RPO to make reads easy for Bryce Young. Reduce the amount of time he is in the pocket facing pressure. Use play action and roll outs to define reads easy for Bryce. Attack the middle of the field against LBs and safeties

Additional Information:

DEFENSE:

Base formation and coverage: 4-2-5; cover 2 shell/Cover 4

Pressure Rate: set the edge, rush to contain force Lamar inside to my DT’s and LB’s

3rd and Long formation and substitutions: 4-1-6; Replace Quincy Williams with Kristian Fulton. Sub Brandon Graham at DT for Alim McNeill

Short Yardage Formation and substitutions:5-2-4. Sub BJ Hill in for Troy Hill

Redzone Formation and Substitutions: 5-2-4. Sub in Jermaine Johnson for Troy Hill to play a pressure off ball backer

Focus Players to Stop: Lamar, Mike Evans, George Kittle

Run Game Philosophy: Spy Lamar and set the edge hard with DE’s force runs to the inside to the DT’s and LB’s. No RB’s really scare us. So contain Lamar is the focus

Pass Game Philosophy: Attack the middle and the right side. Create inside pressure and pressure from the right to force Lamar  to his left and cut the field in half. Play a cover 2 press behind it to eliminate short reads. 2 deep safeties to prevent big plays as much as possible. Make Baltimore sustain long drives.

Baltimore

Offense

Let Lamar cook – Lamar has been tearing it up recently so we want to put the ball in his hands a lot here, especially against a corner group filled with journeymen. We will target the intermediate area outside the numbers to beat either man coverage with Evans or Osborn or zone with Kittle. Evans and Kittle will be heavily targeted as long as they are not double teamed. When a double team comes in, we’ll adjust with more QB runs and more passes to Osborn/Dotson. Dotson and Barrios/Logan Thomas will be used as safety valves off the bench.

Establish the run – Lamar will be asked to run a lot as always, but we want to complement that with a decent dose of running plays. Mattison will be our downhill running back and we want to run straight at Jalen Carter or Josh Sweat to tire them out. Patterson will rotate with Mattison and will be used more as an outside runner. Warren will be an offensive weapon and we will try to give him 5 plays to get him into space with the ball in his hands.

Double team Carter if necessary – We trust our tackles outside but inside we use additional help to limit Jalen Carter impact. If needed we will ask our RB to stay in pass pro but we think a double team and Lamar escapability will be enough to limit Raleigh DL.

Defense

Make Bryce Young beat us – Raleigh has started Young for better or worse the last weeks and we won’t to dare them to beat us with their passing game. We will stack up the box and have McKinney play the nickel role with Woods as the single high safety. We think it gives up the best chance to stop CMC and put pressure on Young.

Cover 3 with a lot of blitzes – We will play cover 3 zone with both outside corners and Woods manning the three deep zones. Our SLB, whether that’s Burns, Collins or Gardeck, will alternate between rushing the passer and dropping back in coverage to keep Young guessing. We’ll also throw in delayed blitzes from that position to further confuse the rookie. On passing downs Raekwon Davis subs out for a nickel corner, and we will alternate between different types of zone D (cover 2, cover 3, cover 6)

Bring the heat on the edge – Heavy rotation on the DL. Jonah Williams will spare our interior guys from time to time. On passing downs, Davis goes out for a corner. Epensa, Paye and Oweh (if he plays) will rotate a lot. At SLB, Burns (if he plays), Collins and Gardeck rotate.

No idea why Baltimore is trusting Luke Goedeke to handle Josh Sweat. Think we get an even game w more Young success than IRL. Still I think Baltimore’s offense can do a bit more in this matchup with some strong receivers and Jackson’s dual threat to make a difference here.
