That seems unrealistic to get 2 picks back

11+ 23 = 2010 pts

4 + 90 + 138 = 1977 pts

That's still a premium for the pick...if the Vikings don't get 2 picks back, then they'd be getting fleeced.

Trades charts be dammed when the Vikings would have to talk them out of drafting Harrison and they know how desperate the Vikings are to get 1 of these 4 QBs

There's been lots of talk lately about Nabers surpassing MHJ.  There's actually lots of good WRs in this draft (and 3 of them potentially could be drafted in the top 10).  He could be a HoFer like his dad, but who knows.

I don't think they necessarily have to be talked out of Harrison because they could get a darn good receiver even at #11.  Their GM (a MN native) was also raised in the Patriots system, so who can say that they are going to value drafting a WR that high...the only time they even drafted one in the first round while he was in NE was N'Keal Harry...and we see how that worked out.

Are we desperate? I thought we were going to be desperate but my feeling at this point is we're not, with this added pick we now have contingencies built in. We don't know how they feel about the top 5 QBs.

If they have similar grades on McCarthy as they do Penix, and if the asking price for 1.4 is way to much, then they might be comfortable waiting for QB4 at 1.11 now that they have that extra pick incase they need to move up from 1.23 for QB5.

KAM and KOC have not showed any desperation at this point which is refreshing.

Then let them draft Harrison, and call Los Angeles

Throw any trade chart out of the window when trading into the top 5 for a QB

You can't throw them out.  You still use it as a guide.

Depending upon how you value "next year" picks and a player, even the trade for the Panthers up to get Young last year is within a reasonable margin of the value charts.  Generally, the next year picks are valued as one rd later for trade purposes, so the Bears actually would have only gotten 2300+ pts + DJ Moore for the 3000 pt Bryce Young.  If you put them at their value in the year, then it's about 3400 pts + DJ Moore for Young.  It's quite reasonable to expect picks back...even in a trade up for a QB when you're giving up 2 1st rd picks in the same year.

Not getting additional later picks back (even if they're 2025 picks) would have me question whether you're competent enough to do the job.

McCarthy and Maye. Probably in that order, although it’s close.

For me it would be Maye, Daniel's, Williams,  then McCarthy.

Williams and McCarthy are good smidge behind Maye and Daniel's.  Williams strikes me as a flake like Cam Newton.  To much unknown about McCarthy playing in any other than the run first Harbaugh offense.

If KAM can pull that off he may just redeem himself for his past drafts, particularly the Lions trade down.

3. Minnesota Vikings (from NE*): Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina

*Trade: Vikings trade No. 11, No. 23, a first-round pick in 2025 and a second-round pick in 2026 to the Patriots for No. 3.

Look, climbing this high and parting with three first-rounders is not for the faint of heart. But if you’re going to swing, why not swing big? The Vikings’ connection to Maye is well-known: Quarterbacks coach Josh McCown coached him at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C. But even before McCown, Vikings scouts had eyed Maye for several years. He may need some time to develop, but that might align perfectly with head coach Kevin O’Connell’s views on what a young quarterback needs to become successful. Minnesota has an experienced QB room and loads of skill players. Now’s the time to try to find its quarterback of the future.

it's a tiny premium, like 2%.

to make that trade, we might need to pay a 20% premium, or even more.
